North East minicab drivers hit the streets from drivers' school

Drivers from a flagship minicab school will soon be taking to the roads.

Blueline has welcomed the first 30 owner-drivers to successfully complete its flagship Driver Academy training course.

The course is designed to take aspiring owner-drivers from raw recruit to the **** **** in just three weeks.

It’s hoped the academy will help Blueline bolster its existing fleet of 600 vehicles with hundreds of new roles.

The company formed a partnership with Northumberland College to deliver the training package, which includes nine units covering everything from driver etiquette to customer service, route knowledge and how to deal with problematic incidents.

Ian Shanks, owner and managing director of Blueline, said: “Our ambitious growth plans called for a whole new approach to staff training and Driver Academy is the result.

“We’ve worked very closely with the team from Northumberland College to devise a course framework that ticks all the boxes.”

The Driver Academy is currently based at Blueline’s Wallsend head office while work is completed on a purpose-built base in Shields Road, Byker.

few points here - obviously those recruits being licensed simply are not good enough - hence the need for Bluelines new school.

Also - if Blueline is really that good - how come they have drivers leave and need to be replaced?

Also - why do the newspapers in the north east persist with these self publicity stories?

I did miss a couple.....

I wonder how much tax payers money is going towards the training provided by the College?

Is it really right in times of austerity that the tax payer are actually subsidising the recruitment of private businesses in a business such as minicabbing?

I wish old JD was about......I'm sure he'd have fun investigating how much of tax payers money was being used here, I imagine the call to Newcastle College would make the college wonder what the hell was going on........of course that would ordinarily be the job of a local journalist or paper......but lets not forget the thousands they get from advertising each year.

I'd say about £5K per driver in costs.
