Insuring your taxi needn’t be taxing

Whether you’re a self-employed taxi driver using your own vehicle or you run a fleet of private hire cars, you can rely on Coversure to source the best insurance policy for your needs. We understand that your car – or your fleet – represents your livelihood and how important it is that you have the right taxi cover.

Our flexible insurance solutions enable us to tailor the policy to your individual needs. For example, we can add in a Social, Domestic & Pleasure clause* so that your spouse can drive the taxi in between shifts, allowing you to make maximum use of the vehicle. We can also provide breakdown cover for taxis that are below 10 years in age.

Cheap Taxi Insurance Cover
All taxi insurance enquiries are passed onto specialist taxi insurance companies in the UK. Our panel of brokers are hand picked not only do they offer you excellent cover but also offer an efficient service in the event if your taxi was involved in an accident. Whether you use your taxi for private or public hire, our panel of taxi brokers offer competitive taxi insurance policies and first class service for any level of cover you may require.

Spouse to drive for SDP use? The quick answer is YES! Only available on some schemes where the spouse can be added as an additional driver to drive for Social Domestic and Pleasure use on the insured's taxi insurance policy subject to underwriting criteria and an additional premium may be charged.

Basically, ask the local licensing office, if it's OK with them then it's OK with some of our taxi insurer panels to add the Spouse on your private hire insurance policy.

Seems like there's a serious problem? I wonder how many brokers are telling drivers this.

Perhaps - but its broadly the same as giving a PHV public hire insurance isn't it?

Great, so the unlicensed wife goes out in the car and one of her friends is waiting for her to pick her up. She sees the car coming and puts her arm up to attract the unlicensed wife's attention. The unlicensed wife stops and picks her up. How is that going to look to other taxi drivers or licensing enforcement?

It will look like plying, but looks don't automatically mean illegality.

I fully support the LC over this issue. As has been alluded to above, a PH vehicle whilst always remaining a PH vehicle is also a family car.

This also applies in many instances in the hackney trade.

as a PH has to be pre-booked its obvious only some who already intends breaking the law will pick up flag, it would help if councils didnt insist on plastering PH vehicles with signage, cos then they look like taxi's...

The unlicensed rapists would really appreciate that.

if thats the case why do SOME councils not insist on signage, and some have "no plate" cars?....

and some have rooflights on PH...

a car could have "window cleaner" on the doors and still get flagged down

Councils that don't allow signage are usually the thick ones that listen to some of the idiots representing the hackney trade.
