The Scottish government is trying to find a buyer for the Grangemouth refinery and petrochemicals plant.

Scotland's Finance Secretary John Swinney said ministers had been having discussions "with other players".

An on-going dispute between owners Ineos and the union Unite has resulted in the plant being temporarily closed.

Judging by recent speeches, Salmond seems very 'relaxed' about how his party are going to fund all those nice promises. I reckon he's planning on borrowing Gordon Brown's magic money tree so there's no need for anyone to be concerned...

Question didn't Ineos sell a 51% stake in grangemouth to the Chinese and if that is the case why are the chinese not getting involved ?

PS Nidge much of the output from grangemouth goes to England especially Cumbria and so I would say CC needs to be more worried than Gus not that it will effect much because most UK diesel fuel is imported from the US an Europe with someof the output from grangemouth (gasoline) going the other way

And of course the oil and it's revenues remain unchanged.

If the place does close, it will be a tragedy for the guys who work there as well as the whole Grangemouth area.
I'm sure they won't forget in a hurry who it is that wants to use the place as a political football or those such as Nidge and his fascist friends who take delight in their misery.

No they are money pits !!!! Why should taxpayers money be poured into them whilst the huge profits are made by the city financiers who buy and sell oil cargoes on their way to the refineries

They should nationalise the oil industry too.

It works well in Norway.

AFAIK the Norwegian Statoil are by far the largest operator in their sector of the North Sea and they have operations all over the world. It is majority owned and controlled by the Norwegian state.

Its a bit difficult to turn the oil you get from the ground into the stuff you put into your tank and engine - the country needs refineries - without them your fuel wont work
