At my local Network Rail station there's never a cab there, not even a cab business card tucked in the timetable. but then there' little trade at Appledore (Kent), it's in the middle of nowhere. even the pub shut down 18 months ago. Luckily the woman who lives in one of the two nearby cottages has our number!

Where I work they just put up the price of a station pass to £615. It's probably just about worth it on a mainline station but what really [edited by admin] me off is that the next station on the line is a major tourist destination with three times the footfall that we get, three times the number of cabs licensed there and they pay the same as us.

[edited by admin]!

There is no station permit at our station BUT it has been talked about with the three stations Stamford oakham and melton the problem is that if you did pay for a permit theres always about 5 or 6 cars up there and at best an average of 1 or 2 fares an hour come off the trains except for a couple of hours in the evening and what would happen is that the cars would park up on the double yellows as the station "courtyard is only 10 feet of paved area between the public road anf the station and grab the fares anyway

I certainly wouldn't pay the £415 quoted as the likely price for the permit

Time for you to get onto trading standards

Can trading standards trump the high court case?

Only in Skippy land.

Skippy will be getting his Own Railway Station in a couple of years time...though who's actually going to use this rural railway Cul de Sac I'm not sure. It's only being built to appease the minority of "Must-Havers" that always dictate these things and to hell with the rest of us who'll have to subsidise it.

the trouble was in those days governments didn't listen as much to protestors otherwise the Waverley route the east lincs and the oxford to cambridge lines would still be here and carrying record amounts of traffic and generating a few fares for local cabbies along the routes !

Only the brain dead pay permit fees, don't pay a thing, and the punters will soon complain there are no taxis and most will phone for one

It seems we've been picking up a bit of work from Appledore courtesy of National Rail Enquiries website!

It seems we've been added to the station a the firm to call for private hire/taxis. quite how we got on the site is a mystery to us. At the station there's the usual info sheet, 3 firms listed there all many miles from the station, 2 in Rye (next stop along, 10 miles away) and 1 in Tenterden, 10 miles further up the road. None listed there for New Romney, which is where most of our passengers want to go! cost to us? £0.
