From a website for a local firm who use an automated despatch system, drivers having PDA's (or suchlike)

As the drivers wont have a PH ops licence is this an infringement?

Quote:
PDA allows customers to book return journeys with the drivers rather than having to ring through to the office.

There is a simple way to find out. Book a car with them and then when you are in the car, book the return with the driver. Take the return journey and then report the matter to your LO. If it is illegal the company will be called to book. If not, then it is OK.

The booking will still go through the operator's exchange/system, so IMO 100% legal.

Drivers are allowed to take bookings for a return journey. See the Act.

Anyone can take a PH booking as long as it goes through a PH licensed op.

Not sure your return thing is right.

What about "calls must be taken in the district in which the vehicle is licensed" (or some such)

99% of the time a PH car (on a base) has no ops license, booking it with the DRIVER could be naughty

It could also tempt the driver into taking the job himself if it was a good job and not informing the base, who could then be in bother if one of their cars picks up a job they havent got logged

I suspect that happens 1000s of times a day.
