I can open beer bottles with my teeth, I do occasionally as a party trick but I prefer to use a bottle opener.

Always best to use the best tools for the job.

I really don't understand why any professional driver wouldn't have a sat nav. Do those who object to them ever look at a map?

Is a sat nav not a better tool?

I'm on a rank at Romford station right now, my next passenger might ask for 226 Becontree Avenue for example.

I know where Becontree Ave is, everyone around here knows Becontree Ave.

I don't have a Scooby though how the numbers run and it's a different route to one end than it is to the other.

Well don't you think you should learn which way the numbers run.

couple of more serious points....

I'd expect you as a driver to know where the road was and what was the shortest route - I wouldn't expect you to know the number - but I'd expect you to know there may be two entrances.

the entire fault of the situation on Bath is of the councils own doing

I think the issue is not using a sat-nav to look up an address (as you would a paper map) but blindly following the route it tells you rather than using knowledge. The exception would be if you're going out of town and unless you followed passengers directions you'd have to keep stopping to re-check your A-Z.

I once had a job to Manchester airport, easy enough to get there without any navigational aids. About 5 miles from the airport there was a serious accident on the motorway leading to its closure for most of the day - I just hit 'find alternative route' on the sat-nav and it took me off the motorway avoiding the holdup. Without it I wouldn't have had a clue which way to go.

That would be Woodchurch Road, Leasowe Road, Telegraph Road or Borough Road and yes I would :D I even know which end of the road I need to go in when it's blocked off in the middle, be that a long road or a short road  I know my area and whilst there are some obscure places I may not be familiar with I've never used satnav whilst customers are on board it's unprofessional.

I note that you didn't comment on the driver that I posted about the other day. Was that also unproffesional?
