I have just come off the phone from AXA insurance. These are the people who insured the driver who reversed into our Zafira on the 4th November.
They rang up to ask me to take some pictures of the damage and email them over because they are in dispute with the body shop over the total cost of the repair. Now quite how it is my job to take the pictures is beyond me.
The damage that can be seen is fairly small and is a new wing and some filer and paint for the door. It is the damage that cant easily be seen that is the problem, the door pillar. The quote for the total job is apparently £1,800. I have no idea if this is reasonable or not as I am no expert on the subject.
The point here is that it has now been 18 days since the accident and the quote going in and there is still no decision on the work. I would bet that when they look at the pictures they will still need to send out an engineer to look at the car before making a decision so we could be looking at another 7 days before any decision is taken and then another 5 days for the repair. That will make 30 days that the car will have been off the road.
THE REPLACEMENT CAR IS COSTING £295 PER DAY
So for 30 days they are looking at a cost of £8850 for the hire car.
I am glad that I don't have a degree in economics. #-o

£1,800 for a new wing, paint and filler is cheap. What are AXA playing about at?

Maybe, just maybe there is a dodgy deal going down between some claims handlers and some vehicle suppliers. Just a thought.

Costing a fortune to run! do you think that I can claim for the extra running costs? Our Zafira does 42 MPG and the "beast" does 24MPG.

It is diesel, it is an automatic. There is a driver here who has the manual version and he says he is getting around 30-33 MPG. How does he ever make a living is beyond me.

It is no wonder that premiums are so high. Liability was admitted by the insurers on day 1. As i see it the only decision that has to be made is to either repair it or write it off. Another 2 weeks and they could have bought me a new car. =D> =D>
