Wooohaa

This seems a lively debate. I am from that borough and I'm a PH
driver and to be honest I have to agree with Betty S on this matter!
Perhaps things work differently in your neck of the woods but we really dont want unlimited plates here.

First things first, lets introduce ourselves JD. I am speaking as a hackney owner driver and I have an obvious interest in this debate. You are now able to introduce yourself JD and tell me your personal interest and explain on what authority you can make slanderous allegations of illegal behaviour by Halton borough council.

I think you mean libellous allegations, but if you can't remember the difference then do what I do and use the generic term defamatory. For the record, slander is spoken defamation, libel is written.

So perhaps your grasp of basic legal principles is not as good as you think, in which case you are in rocky territory accusing JD of being wrong on taxi law?

Oh and TDO people in glass houses shouldnt throw stones!
The terms and agreements page says:-

"You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, SLANDEROUS, hateful, threatening, sexually-oriented or any other material that may violate any applicable laws."

I'm sure you mean LIBELLOUS in this in this instance as you told betty S above. Is your understanding of basic legal principles a bit rocky also?

Hardly surprising you agree with Betty since you posted that from the same computer.

That's the standard terms and agreements page written by the phpBB software authors, it has nothing to do with us, and I doubt if it was written in terms of UK law.

I draw your attention to the forum rules, which state:

4 – Any contributor making defamatory remarks or posting malicious falsehoods, whether about Taxi Driver Online or third parties, may have their registration terminated. This also applies to those using external sources to disseminate defamatory remarks or malicious falsehoods, or those attempting to promote such sources on Taxi Driver Online.

So I take it that your knowledge of the internet is as ropey as that on legal matters?

Dear TDO

I fear it is you who is unfamiliar with the not just the internet but life itself!
We have a cybercafe here and it has a network of many computers that are available to many drivers and also many members of the public also.
You my freind appear to have a real problem seeing beyond the end of your nose!

I would expect a few more drivers from the Halton area on here shortly so brace yourself.................... That is unless you only allow drivers on who are for the de limitation of plates.

Regards Bob

What I want to know is how any of you think I as a PH driver am going to benefit from being granted a plate. The balance is RIGHT here in Halton.
I honestly cant think of a reason why it should be changed. If it aint broke ,dont fix it!
I am open to serious debate on this if you can me valid offer points FOR de limitation.

Regards Bob

Well then what's your problem with freeing up the system if the PH are going to stay PH? :?

What have you to hide? :-k

That aside, the issue at hand isn't the pros and cons of de-limitation, that is being dealt with in many other threads on TDO. It's the complete lack of knowledge being shown from Halton's licensing department of current licensing law.

What with Cummings and Mr T sharing the same flawed knowledge, one has to wonder if there is a stupid bug in the water up there. :D

Yes, it happens all over the country - groups of taxi drivers meeting up in cyber cafes - not

Given the amount of playground level posts of yours we had to delete last night your intention is clearly to register under multiple IDs and cause as much trouble as possible.

If you bothered to read the near 30,000 posts on here you'll know that we encourage debate, but clearly as you can't debate and can only cause trouble we can't encourage that.

Try reading our homepage, there are plently of valid points on there.

Just because you think you should be afforded preferential treatment is hardly a vailid reason for continuing it.

Typical 'do as I say, not as I do'. [-X [-(

Yes, I agree we're from different worlds Mr T, I have to get out onto the ranks to make a living, you get a helping hand from your cartel with Sefton councillors.

I would hardly call that 'work'. :-s

And you never did answer my question from a few months ago, so pray tell, which best describes you:

From the unions in New York:

Under the current scheme in place in New York City, more than 44,000 workers who drive the city's taxicabs are being blatantly exploited by a cartel of owners who have manipulated the system to deprive the drivers of income and benefits...

From a Dublin journalist:

Drivers who didn't have a licence, so-called "cosies", were forced to pay £250 a week for the right to work. They had to pay that money to the licence owner, before earning a penny for themselves. To own a licence was to be a little baron, with the right to extract money from hard-working cosies and to harass [PH] drivers. Some people owned several licences.

From a Cambridge councillor:

In other cases, the holder of the licence merely 'rented' the right to operate the cab to a succession of other people, sometimes to more than one person at once. There are even instances of people who hold more than one licence who make money not by driving but by 'renting' out their licences.

I'm not sure why you try to draw attention to your inability to answer the question by your reply above, particularly when you usuefully repeat my whole question in your reply.

Nuff said :D

No, I think that means that some people can debate points put to them, while others do their best to ignore them. :?
