New jobs for Wirral after council approve company grants


Cash from £5m Regional Growth Fund to fund new employment


More than 30 new jobs are expected to be created in Wirral after councillors approved a series of grants to three local companies.

Among them is Cabfind.com which pioneered the first generation of online taxi booking systems, which says it should create 30 jobs.

While engineering company FPI North West Ltd says four more jobs are in the pipeline to add to the five workers at their Commerce Park site in Birkenhead.

Also expecting to see “significantly increasing employee numbers over the next couple of years” is Bromborough based Riverview Law.

The cash is from the £5m Regional Growth Fund (RGF) grant handed to Wirral to develop the offshore wind industry.

At a meeting of the borough’s ruling cabinet earlier this week, councillors agreed to support the three companies in their continued expansion.

Cabfind.com say the grant will help them create a new software development centre and to work on allowing customers to book taxis via desktop or 3G Smartphone Apps.

In 2012, Cabfind.com managed 600,000 individual customer journeys and recorded an annual turn over of £13.2 million. This is expected to grow by 14% to £15 million this year.

Chris Jordan, Cabfind.com managing director, said:”Technology is revolutionising the way customers interact with our business and it is vital we invest in our IT systems to stay ahead of the competition and satisfy their expectations.

“With the help of Invest Wirral we will be able to create more jobs and deliver a seamless and efficient booking experience.”

FPI North West Ltd have identified Wirral and its flourishing offshore energy sector as an area for significant growth and already supply Dong Energy and RWE NPower Renewables - two of the main operators in the Irish Sea and Liverpool Bay wind turbine energy business.

The company says the grant will also enable them to locate additional staff in Wirral, and Colin Walker, director, said:”There are real opportunities opening up for a company like ours within the offshore wind supply chain and this grant from Wirral council will help us to be in the best possible shape to take advantage of them.”

Karl Chapman, chief executive of Riverview Law said: “The support and investment we have received from Invest Wirral has been excellent and is a major reason as to why we will be able to continue creating more high quality jobs at our headquarters in Bromborough.”

Pat Hackett, cabinet member for the economy said:”I am delighted that Wirral council is able to help three more companies to grow and create new jobs in Wirral by utilising our resources and accessing grant funding through the Regional Growth Fund.

“The three companies operate in very different fields but all have demonstrated a commitment to Wirral and solid trading histories with the promise of bright futures if we can help them to invest further in their IT, plant, machinery and most importantly, their staff.

Clearly their profits are not to be used for investment in the company just for investment into their own bank accounts. Don't we already pay enough as TV licence holders to this company

Cabfind.com Awarded RGF Funding

Ground transportation market leaders Cabfind.com has been successful in gaining a grant from the Regional Growth Fund (RGF).

The grant was awarded by Wirral Council, and it will enable Cabfind.com to create 30 new jobs.

Cabfind.com pioneered the first generation of dynamic taxi booking systems. Now UK market leaders, they specialise in nationwide ground transportation services, and manage the private hire transport needs of corporate clients and the public sector with a virtual fleet of over 120,000 vehicles.

The RGF grant will help them create a new Software Development Centre and deliver new solutions enabling customers to book via desktop or 3G Smartphone Apps, creating 30 new jobs at their headquarters in Birkenhead.

This is the latest accolade for Cabfind.com. The organisation has been shortlisted for Best Ground Transportation Company in the national Business Travel Awards 2014, winners will be announced in January. And recently, it scooped the Innovation Award at the Wirral Business Partnerships Awards 2013.

Through its own £5million RGF grant to develop the offshore wind industry in Wirral and as a partner in the Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LCR LEP) RGF programme, Invest Wirral – Wirral Council’s business support team – is able to offer targeted grants, encouraging inward investment and enabling local companies to diversify.

Invest Wirral worked with Cabfind.com to identify its business needs and supported them throughout the RGF application process.

Maybe I should apply for a grant to create the legal version and keep all jobs local thus helping the local economy even more so

I'd like to develop my own booking system for smart phones etc and create a training centre for operations staff and drivers, the list is endless I could employ well more than 30 people ffs
