Why I'm so glad to be my own boss with a reasonable fare structure over the festive period.

Mind you, I'd have to actually leave the house to earn the rate . . :D

What's PAYE (Pay As You Earn)? I only know that in Tax terms. Do they pay the drivers pension, sick leave etc?

I heard that in PH/Taxi, whoever pays the FUEL(petrol/diesel) is the BOSS, by law. I need to fact check on that :doubt:

The self employed drivers that drive my cars pay a rate per mile. The car comes with fuel, insurance and maintenance. The more miles they do the more they pay. Any fares that they take are theirs. They can find their own customers and hand out their own business cards. We offer them jobs from the office but it is their choice if they want to do them. We do not take any commission and make no other charges.
We may not get rich but it works for us and the drivers. If they work the Friday night and Saturday night it works out that they are taking home around 70 to 75% of the money they take. Oh and we don't take any commission on account work that they do.

This is the most reasonable approach I've seen so far. How much per mile if you don't mind me asking? You can PM the answer :-)

In the old days we would have disconnected the speedo, not so sure they are classed as self employed though?

If the answer is 'Yes' to all of the following questions, it will usually mean that the worker is self-employed:

Can they hire someone to do the work or engage helpers at their own expense?
Do they risk their own money?
Do they provide the main items of equipment they need to do their job, not just the small tools that many employees provide for themselves?
Do they agree to do a job for a fixed price regardless of how long the job may take?
Can they decide what work to do, how and when to do the work and where to provide the services?
Do they regularly work for a number of different people?
Do they have to correct unsatisfactory work in their own time and at their own expense?

They work when they want. They take their own work, They can pass their work on to anyone they like, they can charge what they like subject to the Council tariff. We offer them work but it is up to them if they want to take it. They just hire the car from us at a price per mile.
