I thought I would make a New Year appearance, for a limited time only.

It’s been over two years since I freed myself from the daily monotony of driving a cab, and even now, I have nightmares that I am still doing the job. The sense of relief in knowing that one has escaped, working sh*t hours for sh*t pay picking up sh*t people, is more than a body can express in a few lines on an Internet forum. Although, I'll do my best to convey to you my obvious delight in having made it out. My only real regret is that I did not do it ten years sooner.

To quote the late, great, Jimmy Reid “a rat race is for rats” and never were truer words spoken when applied to the Private Hire or Taxi Trades.

And before anyone answers this comment by making ridiculous statements about how great, it is to be a cabby. You are a moron, and you need to have your head examined to think such a thing. #-o

Oh and guys, I don’t know who was worse to work with, the council, the company committees, fellow taxi drivers or the punters. Honestly, I look back now and can’t make up my mind, who takes first place on my lowlife scum list of feckwits, regrettably it is too close to call.

Your thoughts gentlemen ... :D

Hssc, have you ever looked back at something, a job maybe, and could not believe that you did it for so many years, knowing the futility of what you were doing?

You know the old saying "ignorance is bliss" well fu*k me. I envy some of those dumb ba*tards out there. It must be wonderful to do a job and be so blissfully unaware, that you haven't got a fu*king clue where it all went wrong. Ten years should have been enough for me, job done. Jesus, ten years late but I made it. Lesson learned.

I only hope you do likewise.

I was speaking to someone the other day, who swore on his mother's life, that those working at the airport are paying £2.50 to pick up a fare, which will soon be increased to £2.90 a fare. I honestly couldn't believe it and still don't. I thought he was pulling my leg. Would anyone care to clarify the situation?

Now if this is true, it is proof positive, how dumb taxi drivers and their committees, really are. Saying that, it's not like it's the committees who are having to pay.. #-o

To pick up ten jobs is twenty five quid, soon to be nearly thirty quid.

Are you INSANE? #-o #-o #-o #-o

A moron is also a term used to describe someone with a mental age of between eight and twelve.

Does a moron ever find peace? :-k

Good to hear from you again Gary, I too have turned the page. I have not turned a begging light on since June and, do not miss anything or, anyone in the job. My stress levels are fine and, find myself looking forward to the day ahead now.

You would be better conducting a survey of those taxi drivers paying £2.50 a pop out at the airport to get the answer to your question.

"Does a moron ever find peace?" Well, at £2.50 soon to become £2.90 what do you think?

Ten fares at £2.50 a fare = £25 X 5 - 6 days = .........        Deary me, tell me you can see the idiocy??????????????

It's a different world, give yourself a year or two, and you'll have trouble believing you drove a taxi for a living.

Must dash...

You seem a bit bored Gary. Are things a bit slack at this time of year in your new line of work ?

Actually, things are just starting to pick up after the festive period. :D

I was intending to take a pop at the taxi trade over the Christmas and New Year, but thought, nah, I can't be bothered, and then I jumped into a taxi and the driver told me about the £2.50 charge to pick up at the Airport, which is soon to become £2.90.

I was honestly astonished.   As you know, I have a very low opinion of Taxi drivers in general, which meant I couldn't pass up on the opportunity pour scorn on their idiocy. I think you've got to admit Gusmac. Their stupidity in this case goes beyond the pale. #-o #-o #-o #-o I would be embarrassed to be seen driving a cab under the present circumstances.

Anyhoo Gusmac, you can't tell me this forum has been anywhere like as entertaining without my contribution. Boring as feck one might say ...

Actually, I'm surprised, that I wasn't asked to return to the forum due to popular demand.

So working long hours for sh*t pay, picking up sh*t people under the the cosh of a sh*t council, floats your boat Sussex? I guess I just wasn't cut out to work with idiots, present company excepted. And to be honest, I don't know how you do it. :-k

I look at the taxi trade and for the most part, all I see is vermin feeding on one another. :-|
