According to the PPP link, there is no authority whatsoever for Luton Airport or any of their contractors to tow vehicle away. That is the nub of the problem. The clampits are acting without lawful authority.

With Luton airport having it's own taxi tariff I'm guessing some authority owns it.

Them on the PPP site are wrongly advising people.

Not at all. Have a look at the bye-laws etc. as the PPP people have done. Like a lot of other airports, since privytisation, the bye-laws haven't been updated to take into account the current owners. There's been a couple of people on there that have had their money back from the clampits or the airport owners.

Linky here for one of the thread on PPP: https://www.google.com/url?q=http://for ... jmv_vQT9MA

And what happens if you don't pay? Is it contractual or statutory? If statutory, which statute?

Roy and I spend a lot of time on PPP and I, in particular, have followed the thread I linked above very closely. If it's done correctly, theCrab won't have to pay the speculative invoice that has been received.

Far too many just roll over and pay the speculative invoices issued by private parking companies and the extortionate tow charges. FFS, take a bit of time out and challenge the b'stards. (where's TT when you need some good expletives)..

Didn't he have to pay it to get the vehicle back? It had been towed away and impounded.

Yes, but then tell the tow company you're going to take them to court for the money you've just paid out. You will usually win as they've got no legal right to tow away.

Just because there's a sign saying "cars parked here will be towed away" does NOT mean there's a legal right to do so, that's what the nub of the matter in Luton and other airports is about.

Sorry Grandad. I'd not noticed the tow truck bit. In which case, that is exactly the situation I linked to above and steps should be taken to reclaim the money!

I have written to the company and waiting to hear from them. If they refuse to return the money, I'll start a thread to get them to court. I might be alone now but am sure this resonates with a lot of people, and if there is enough support I might get the matter to court so we public service providers don't have to be harassed this way.

We, in this industry provide a service to the public and help reduce tragedies ad congestion at the airports. airports should set aside different treatment for taxi/PH drivers dropping off passengers. Yeay or Nay???

Do have a look at the Pepipoo thread if you haven't done so. There's lots of good advice on there and help with wording of the claim. If you get the wording wrong, you may not win.

Have you joined Pepipoo, Crab? The right approach and correct wording are crucial.
