Taxi Driver Online

Given today's technology and in today's market place, what is the best Paid Mileage Coefficient a taxi driver can sustain?

At one end of the spectrum we could in theory have a driver who solely operated transfers between two airports, and never left either without passengers. 100% paid miles.

At the other end of the spectrum we could in theory have a HC driver 'working the cobbles' who is unfortunate enough to cruise 9 miles empty for every 1 mile paid. 1/10=10% paid miles.

Right in the middle we have the theoretical 'homing pigeon' who compulsively returns to the very same rank before putting his hire light back on. Paid miles anywhere = dead miles back again... A precise 50% paid miles.

These are theoretical ... But what's actually happening in practice?

Anyone can have a good run of things, or a bad run, but under normal circumstances, what is the best Paid Miles percentage our online taxi drivers are sustaining... ??

120 miles = £230 - £30 fuel = £200 net

So by my reckoning that's about £1.67 per mile


Or

Ox to heathrow = £60

Heathrow back to ox = £60

Total £120/90 miles = £1.33 per mile

Which is better??

Being private hire, I charge all my dead miles, so always get £1 a mile for everything. Hacks aren't allowed to charge dead mileage in this area and have to set the meter when they get to the pick-up.

I dont measure religiously, however always seem to attain roughly £1 a mile.

I can't imagine ANY drivers would operate that way in reality ... Hence my use of the words 'in theory'.

It was one of three hypothetical scenarios to set the stage ... I'm inviting TRUE empirical evidence to be presented by our online members. Apart from flukes, has anyone achieved more than 80% paid miles in a shift? If so, how do you do it?

Yes, I always do otherwise it's not worth going out for. The only time I lose out is to a no-show, which seems to be more frequent in this area now.

On ambulance contract work, drop, collect drop, collect all day long in/out of outpatients, clinics and Renal units

Are you only transferring between hospital units which have waiting patients or do you sometimes drop patients at their homes? Homes that is which have no waiting passengers and therefore require some empty mileage to get you to your next collection.

I'm assuming you don't find passengers waiting EVERYWHERE you drop ... So over a sustained period ... What is the best live mileage percentage you can get?

id take one in, then another or two then 1st would be ready to leave, drop them, take another in...

each hospital has an ambulance (PTS) base and an ops manager
