Clearly he made a mistake, but he doesn't deserve, nor has he received any criticism from me.

My point is a more general one, and if a 77 year old driver is reading this and next week he doesn't get out of the cab and get a beating I will be happy.

Your point re the thugs is valid, but this isn't Thugs Online, and the only advice I can give them is to die a long painful death.

I can appreciate your general point but for some on this forum, it was about proportioning blame or responsibility to Ken for his actions.

I find it very sad that certain individuals conveniently lost sight of the victim in all of this, when it is they who should bear at least some of the responsibility, for letting this attack happen in the first place or preventing it happening again in the future.

Ach but at the end of the day, it was only a 77-year-old taxi driver that took a beating. You can’t expect his work colleagues, Councillors or MPs, to give a [edited by admin], now had Ken been killed, that would be a different matter.

Excellent news. Now lets not bother with a trial for these worms. Just take them straight to hospital and remove there liver/heart/lungs/kidneys and any reusable organ and give them to decent people that need them. Then whats left of them feed to the eeffing pigs

I can see it now, all these Southend taxi drivers having a whip-round for old Ken while wishing him well, on his way to a speedy recovery.

“Don’t worry Ken, we are in the process of getting organised, and we are lobbying our Councillors and MP's, to make sure they are doing everything in their power to take action, so that this kind of thing never happens again. We expect to have panic buttons and CCTV, installed in our vehicles within the next few months.”

You’ve got to hand it to these Southend boys. They don’t half stick together, whip-rounds for old Ken, lobbying their politicians and demanding safer working conditions. No stone left unturned.

It just warms the cockles of your heart to see such camaraderie between taxi drivers all pulling together in a single cause.

You know. I almost went back up to my council to reapply for my taxi licence.

Oh and I take back everything I’ve said in the past about taxi drivers being the lowest form of life on the planet. After this, I can't understand why anyone wouldn't want to be a cabby.

I think TDO, should have a dedicated section for Attacks Against Taxi Drivers. That way, anyone choosing to avoid the shame and responsibility for allowing these atrocities to happen, can skip the humiliating read.

If this is just left to fade into the darkness then the southend taxi trade deserve,s everything they get. The way it stands now you have the media coverage and public sympathy and a police investigation all going on down there after a old man was brutally beaten up. FFs dont waste it everyone of yous phone your councilors up and tell them how yous feel and ask what the council intend to do to fulfill THERE duty of car towards taxi drivers also Demand safer working condition (cctv). The hackney assosiation should be talking to the press drumming up more public support. hackney and private hire should Demand a meeting with the police as they also have a duty of car to make sure you are safe. Or just revert back to the norm and eat another pie then turn a blind eye and shaft your workmate for a 3 quid fare
