Cabby slugged fare who wanted to pay with credit card, cops say

An irate cabby whose credit-card reader wasn’t working punched out a Manhattan woman who didn’t have cash, according to law-enforcement sources and the victim.

The 40-year-old woman — who was left lying on the sidewalk unconscious — said the terrifying encounter began when she and her fiancé hailed the taxi near a Broome Street bar. at 4:40 a.m. Saturday.

She told the hack to take her to Waverly Place and Greene Street in Greenwich Village.

“We went about three to four blocks, the cab pulled over,” she said.

“He said my credit-card machine doesn’t work. We said OK, let me see how much cash we have.”

The victim only had $4 on her, and her fiancé asked the driver to stop at an ATM on the way.

“That’s when the cabdriver got out, and he pulled my fiancé out of the cab,” she said. “He pulled me out by my coat.”

She said the driver screamed, “I don’t trust anybody!” over and over.

The victim said they kept telling him they would pay.

“I was trying to pry his fingers off,” she said. “That’s when he punched me square in the jaw, and I went flying back and hit the ground on my backside. I was unconscious for I don’t know how long.”

The woman said she didn’t anticipate the driver freaking out. “It was incredibly sudden,” she said.

The victim didn’t need to go to the hospital after the vicious assault, but she captured pictures of her bruised face.

“He’s bonkers! He hit me in the jaw,” she said.

When witnesses started yelling at the driver that he can’t hit a woman, he sped away from the scene.

The victim filed a police report, and cops are looking for the driver.

The woman and her fiancé got only a partial license-plate number.

Drivers have up to 48 hours to work with a broken system before it must be repaired, but they must report the problem, according to the TLC.
