am looking at becoming a hackney driver and may start off renting or might buy a cab when i have passed all my tests etc .. but i am looking at quotes at the moment to see what sort prices i can expect.

Only had one guote so far from j&m insurance or other at 5k lol .. is there any good insurers out there for young drivers in the taxi trade? am 27 years old i have had no claims etc just got 3 points on my licence PC30 from 2010 and ive got 6 years no claims discount...ive been driving for 10 yearrs since i was 17 at 2004 but was a named driver for first 3/4 years of driving so didint earn any NCD in those years

thanks matt

your NCD on a private car may count for zilch, in effect you will lose it, and pay for the pleasure

are you "inner city"? bad postcode area?

mines £900

Cheaper quotes are out there! Don't listen to the naysayers. It will be hard, and a long, annoying search, but don't give up. I was 28 when I first took it out my private hire insurance and it was a shade over 2k, with a 25 year old named driver!

I was getting ridiculous quotes and phoning various brokers became such a repetitive process and wasted hours of my time.

Try

http://www.click2insure.co.uk/

That is who sorted it for me - bar far the cheapest!

Edit: Not sure if there's much of a difference between public hire and private hire, can't see it though.

It seemed strange to me when we started but private hire was more expensive than public hire.

problem is a lot just don't get back to you which is annoying! waiting for calls that aren't going to come by the looks of it.

Still had quotes of 5k today haha..

Try South Essex Insurance Brokers. Under £1000 for mine, fully comp & "use for the carriage of passengers for hire and reward", no difference between public and private hire.
