Just had my renewal through, £580 fully protected NCB

How often do you renew your insurance Skippy?
In december 2012 you had just renewed with Patons for £720
May 2013 you said it was £540 with Sabre.
And now March 2014 your renewal is due again at £580 :?

Well am getting somewhere now..

Got a quote from a local company well Liverpool/Manchester offices they have

quote was £2995 fully comp! with full break down recovery etc and 10 million public liability insurance.

Am not sure what the public liability is for i thought a fully comp would insure the passengers in the back of the cab lol.

Would u guys say thats a decent price? for a someone with a new badge (well will be a new badge holder hopefully) a the age of 27

Try County Insurance on Hoylake Road, Moreton. They do a weekly insurance which I do believe allows you to build up your no claims bonus

Thanks toots ill look them up and give them a call on Monday.

When you say weekly insurance? is that just pay it weekly instead monthly or a sort of pay as you go type insurance.

I'd say it's like a pay as you go. I think it's about £60 a week. It's not brilliant but it does allow you to build up NCB and if you have to change vehicles it's no great shakes, unlike Freeway who will charge for everything they can, that said they can be quite reasonable with their quotes sometimes. I'm with Freeway and have been for a few years and I know quite a few drivers that are but a word of caution, be careful what they 'cut out' to get a low quote I've got a driver here with no windscreen cover. Also it is Freeways policy that if you have an accident you have to pay the policy in full before they'll repair your vehicle, a little unknown fact about Freeway they don't tell you about until you have an accident.

The windscreen cover on my policy has the same excess as an accident, £350. Do you know how much it costs to get an independent windscreen fitter to come out and fit a new one? About £125 dependent on the vehicle.

Don't bases still buy block insurance, 20 policies then rent them out at huge markup? Was £40 a seek 15 years ago and didn't accrue ncb

I see.. so am i right in thinking you can sort of start/stop it as when needed? for example if you work say 3 weeks out of a month then work somewhere else on the 4th week could you stop it? then resume it the week after.

Or is it just purely a weekly insurance that if you come to stop the insurance say 3/4 months later your not tied in to anything.

I am not sure how you would stand legally now if you have an insurance policy that you could stop for the odd week because of the requirement for continuous insurance. IE if the vehicle is not insured you have to declare SORN. For the insurance to work in this way would require constantly declaring SORN one week and cancelling it the next.

Oh that's true! didn't think of that.. i was just trying to understand the advantage of a weekly insurance over annual. I suppose its just the convenience of canceling if you are a new starter and unsure if its for you. I thought you could cancel annual insurance too for example if you put it off the road because the car is knakkerd lol

My excess was £80 and the total bill was far in excess of that because of all the bloody gadgets attached to  So I guess it depends on the windscreen as to whether it's of any benefit to yourself

It's not a stop and go insurance policy and it's all legal otherwise the licensing department would be down on it like a ton of bricks, I'm just not sure how it's legal. It could well be a yearly insurance that's paid weekly but if you change your mind there are no financial consequences so to speak.
