As i said nidge you dont know what your talking about also add the cost of the txt and pda so you could be looking at £200 a month support of datamaster

That would seem to be a lot cheaper than your system.

Still cheaper then Exel's. They have no binding contracts unlike your 5 year super duper money extracting deal from Exel.

How much are your texts with Exel? Don't say nothing because you don't get something for nothing.

As a software provider, I can’t get drawn into commenting on other companies but I think it’s fair that I clarify some of the points raised here especially given our web site is well out of date.

Back in the days where we were primarily a data unit manufacturer, we made our living wholly on the sale of terminals and so didn’t need to charge for software support. These days however, our customers can opt to go out and buy their own devices off the shelf from Tesco so we needed to change to the more conventional support model with a fixed support fee of £160 irrespective of the company size.

Office installations are essentially done at a fixed cost of £3,200 for a two-user set-up with additional workstations at £500 each i.e. a five-user set-up would be £4,700.
For security, we would never recommend or supply a single PC based solution and the figures below reflect this.

1 x base unit software.. £3200 ** Entire 2 user office, set up and training
13 x pda software……… .... £13
13 x sims………………...... ... £39 ** Dedicated M2M Simms (not sharing the public network)
free ringback…………….......... 0
free txtback……………........... 0
All calls recorded………......... 0
24 hour support………….... £160

You need to add the dreaded Vat to these figures so that would come out at about £254 per month total.
Maybe not quite as cheap as you thought Nige!

Bill :)

It would be impossible for dispatch firms to give free support as they need a regular stream of income in order to evolve there systems to keep the drivers and customers happy and keep up with technology. they are all basicly the same price per month. Anyway txt are included in the monthly payment belive it if you want.

grandad if youve got dispatch then then you should know about support payment and if you havnt then you no less than nidge so stop waffling on

dispatch systems are all the same its a bit like buying a car, they all start of at base level then you add c/locking e/windows etc etc and it all adds to the price. I think the trouble your having with mercury is that your to busy slagging it of to give it a fair chance but again like cars some people like volvos and some like fords while others like nissans

Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion and an open forum like this is bound to get some comments that aren’t strictly accurate. True as suppliers we’re all supplying similar products but to suggest we all add on extras definitely isn’t correct. We include everything in the initial price and from that point you pay a fixed amount of support irrespective of what functions you use. We have never issued a single invoice for anything other than replacement hardware and even that has no mark up. The only thing we do charge extra for is IVR but then again if you need that then money isn’t the issue.

Why are you having a go at me? I simply pointed out to Nidge that you were on a 5 year contract and not a 3 year contract and that based on YOUR figures and the link that YOU put up for the Datamaster system that the Datamaster system was cheaper. Now behave yourself.

That's down to the owner mate, sounds like he needs his plots re-jigging.

the owner kept saying drivers need to "use the PDA to seek out hotspots of work" but all i could see was how many drivers were clear in each plot, there were jobs on a "bid" page (i assume plots without drivers) but taking them was defeated, all i could do was move to another plot and hope

Is it typical of all circuits using Mercury that failing to accept a job in time or rejecting a job gets you logged off?

That's pretty much standard. If you indicate your ready for work but then ignore the jobs then your off until you replot yourself back on.
Where you come back on depends on just how the system is configured.

Re your plot sizes, that's more to do with the way your company has decided to do it and if it's a new setup then the chances are that with time they will get them changed. I can't recall any of our customers that have got their zoneing right on the first attempt.
