Regardless if it's a 'taxi' firm or not, but it is.

When you ring their number, as soon as the phone starts ringing you are charged straight away for the call, in other words if the phone rings for a couple of minutes and no one answers you are charged for a phone call that rang out for two minutes.

Surely that can't be right.

Does their number start with 08 or 09?

The should be some sort of warning that you are being charged for the call BEFORE any charge starts.

There isn't any warning, I tried ringing from my mobile at a busy time and as soon as you are connected the counter on my mobile kicked in, no other number I ring does this.

Could they be making money from this?

I misunderstood. I thought that the call was answered first. I would ask your network provider. They will know if you are being charged and then take it from there.

I checked back (online) my old mobile phone bills and the two times I rang this firm I have been charged (using my free minutes) for both calls, even though only one of the calls was answered. The one that was answered I hung up within a second. Both calls lasted for 4 and 10 seconds. Someone else tried it using a different mobile network to mine one busy Saturday night and they were charged for a phone call that lasted for around a minute even though no one answered.
