Tell me something Jman316, do you always accept uncritically what your Imam teaches you about Islam?

Oh and I've got a story for you. I know two lads, brothers as a matter of fact, Muslims, and I've had many a discussion about what they believe but never together.

The younger of the two, I would describe as being fully westernised and rejects his faith or at least that's what he tells me, but plays along with it for the sake of his family. The other has serious doubts, but like his brother will never discuss it in his brother's presence or with his family.

My question is this, what's the big deal?

The point I was making, but you failed to realise, was why talk to me and not your Imam or your family and challenge what they expect you to believe without reservation? Is the questioning of your faith in Islam that dangerous or damaging to people that it's very rarely done?

Come on I'm being serious. I will ask them and I already know they feel awkward talking about it, even in each others company. I just thought you might be able to enlighten me to their situation and what the response might be if they were known to openly question their faith in Islam.

As for me, nah my father went through WWII, and after all the killing he was more convinced than ever there was no God. My indoctrination was at school, and I think I was lucky, the Minister was a laughable figure and a complete ar*ehole. So you could say, he gave me my skepticism.

This Minister used to get up on stage to give his sermon and he used to talk with his hands and wave them around like a bloody windmill. It was all very bizarre.

Oh and he left his wife by running off with the cleaner of the Manse. You could say he never practiced what he preached but then again, I always had the feeling. He was more about trying to convince himself that god exists.

My grandad served in the British Indian. He was the shouty guy you first saw when you first got off that bus. Probably saw horrible things too. Died a couple of years ago. Devout Muslim as they come.

We each walk our own path mate..I have chosen mine and you yours.
