Not to mention when it's written right to left it's not in Englsih so wouldn't matter which way it's written

Oh and I meant to say, I'm sure I read somewhere that as an Atheist, if you and your chums had your way. I'd be burned alive. Which personally, I thought, was a bit off, if you don't mind me saying. [-X [-X

Well i havent burnt you yet have I, witch?

Live and let live. A lot of things in the book are age specific so do not really apply. But the general thought is not to insult other people's beliefs!

Peace :)

How can the word of God, be age specific? Surely, if burning atheists or stoning apostates was the thing to do back in the day of Muhammad, according to the Qur'an or the Hadith, it must stand today, unless of course, the "word" of God has changed somewhat over the centuries, which would mean it is not the word of God but of man? :? :?

It would be nice Jman316, if you could answer the questions above. As I am genuinely interested in how God's word can be age specific, allowing you to cherry pick the literal word of God and what you choose to believe. As written in the Qur'an or the Hadith and still claim it to be God's word, as transmitted down to Muhammad?

It's a wee tad convenient don't you think? :? :? :?

I dont think burning someone is a punishment prescribed anywhere in the Quran. Care to share where you got this info from? :)

Hadith is not God's word by the way.

Peace :)

Okay, I stand corrected on the Hadith. It appears to be Islamic tradition, burning atheists back in the day of Muhammad but while we are on the subject, what about executing people for apostasy? :-|

Oh and you still haven't answered the question of how the word of God, can be "age specific"? :?

Oh and I should add, I am genuinely interested in people's perspectives on things like this. :-k

No actually burning wasnt. What would have happened is "accept God as your creator" and if the answer was no, well then pay to live under protection. This would have probably been common place in many cultures.

What I meant by word of God being sometimes age specific for when things were said for the people living in that time. So for example "Dont trust the christian and Jews" (a popular one that muslim haters keep bringing up btw) was only intended for that particular time when several agreed alliances and treaties had been broken. So does this mean i as Muslim shouldnt trust my christian bosses or Catholic nurse if im in a hospital. That would be probably be pretty hard in this day and age living in the UK, so simply put no. This is what I mean by when i say some verses are age specific.

Oh and about using the quote button...Im normally at home on my mobile handheld device and its a PITA to having to amend and edit. Hence cant be bothered. Hope that answers your question, whoever you are. :)

I don't think that link was anything to do with me. :?

However, what about the stoning of apostates? I'm almost certain I read that somewhere in the Qur'an, although I did find it very confusing? :?

Nope it didnt have anything to do with what is being discussed here....just thought id share the link.

About the stoning. Opinions wary from yes to no to whatever. Each country practices it differently. Probably Saudi and Iran are the only two places that actively practice it probably.

Anyway, you have mentioned a lot of negatives about religion. Do you think there are any positives? :)

How can the stoning of apostates vary? It's either in the Qur'an, or it's not, and if it is, then surely the literal word of God should be obeyed by its followers, or it's not the word of God?

To be honest, no positives, I'm afraid. Oh I know that people of religious faith do a lot of good around the world but I don't really think it has much to do with religion. :-|

I'm a great believer in - “With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.”
― Steven Weinberg
Sorry, to cut and paste, but I couldn't have put it better myself. :-|
