Taxi Driver Online

I have been a taxi driver private hire since oct 13 and up until now I have been renting my car. I pay £100 p/w and I have an 05 mondeo. It includes repairs and plates but I still feel it would be cheaper to get my own car. When I first started I was looking at buying a car for around 5k but my insurence quotes were around 4 grand. I am currently paying £60 p/w for my insurance through the garage I am renting my car from, so I am not building up any no claims

What would be the best way to get my own car. I have been looking at cab direct and they have the toyota auris hybrid for £62 p/w plus vat. Thinking it will save me money on fuel. Any ideas? Are there any other companies that do these sort of deals. Or somewhere to get one on lease?

We have just bought a Toyota Auris Tourer from Cab Direct. We went for the diesel because the difference in MPG was not that much for the extra cost. This is the second car that we have bought through Cab Direct and we have, so far, found them easy to deal with. I think the price was £49.95 P/W plus VAT or something like that. We have only had the car for a week and my son thinks it's great. I haven't seen it myself yet because I am away until tonight.

even if you buy through cab direct (bad experience with them - my personal opinion) or taxi centre or different finance company your insurance still be "around 4 grand".

How old was the car you were looking at which cost £5k?

Sometimes newer cars can be cheaper to insure than older ones, as they are safer and its' occupants are less likely to be injured in a collision.

I'd stick with the rental mate. You currently pay £160pw, by getting the hybrid you only save around £25pw (not allowing for any fuel saving), the cost of repairs/maintenance/tax/tests/licences over a year will wipe out that saving.

£100/wk for the car, £60/wk insurance, what about base rent or is that in the £100?

If I needed a car now id go for the rental, so long as it included everything except fuel (car/base/tyres/services/plates), my insurance is £20/wk

I'm not sure what you mean by base rent. But it does include everything.

Nearly £800 a month or £200 a week, if i rent a car - only paying fuel) id pay £250, all repairs paid for, ive no investment apart from my badge, if the guy said £200 and i get the car 24/7 for own use too, if hadnt GOT a car its gotta look tempting, and i get a new car every 3 years, id ask for a hack plated estate....

I basically just need a way to cut my costs down. I am currently paying:

160 p/w for car and insurance and includes all repairs and plates and tyres/road tax etc

£100 p/w for base rent.

So my expenses are £260 p/w plus fuel which is usually about £100 p/w. I am currently working mon-fri about 10hrs a day average and my average weekly takings are around £650-£700 p/w.

So I am only really coming out with around £300-£350 p/w after expenses which is not really enough. So firstly, is £650-£700 decent takings for those hours? And secondly o need to cut my costs down that is why I thought that getting my own car might help

Well, our lad used to take home about that for a £20K a year PAYE job, can you get a £20K job?....i cant
