The figures that I came across "PDF Unemployment Stats 1981 to 1995" show an average during 1962 0f 499,883 unemployed, and an average during 1966 0f 390,933 unemployed, that jumped by over 209,000 the following year.

and it didn't take long after that to reach 1,000,000 although as a percentage of the UK workforce 1973 was one of the lowest.

Granted but 1 cannot help but think if the immigrants were not here the jobs they have taken might be open to UK citizens or better yet, the out of work figure would be at least a lot lower

of course nil unemployment is not a happy state for any country, thats when the workers can dictate wages, this has been the case after plague and/or war has depleted the workforce

Yeah but if we didn't have immigrant workers, who would have done all the [edited by admin] jobs no-one wanted to do in the 50's, 60's... like working in the NHS, street cleaning, bus driving to name a few that the "first" generation immigrants done. That first generation went some way toward replacing the generation we lost in WW2.

Since then there's been no WW (yet) so no mass cull of men who need replacing with immigrants. Instead we have a lazy generation who can't be arsed to work, live on benefits, and moan because they can't get a job because the immigrants have taken them all. Well, if Mr.Bone Idle had got off his arse and looked for a job, he could have taken it before Mr.Polac did.

There's a family near me, one of our regular customers, 3 generations on benefits; the mother hasn't worked for year, partly due to medical problems; the son in his 30s hasn't worked for a while, he's dyslexic ffs...the daughter, 3 kids by different men, living elsewhere on benefits. Mother gets eviction notice (3rd one); can't afford the back rent, so books a cab to go out to the new Mexican restaurant for the evening. Talk about getting priorities right!
