When I first started, we didn't have meters it was a fixed rate, and everyone knew how much it cost to get home, now we have them and fare rises almost annually, less folk use the cabs.
I know what I would like to do with the meter

It's "I'm a taxi/ph driver, and this is the way it should be, what do we want with working fewer hour's increased earnings, holiday pay, sick pay and pensions, etc."? #-o

oh dear, so I dont have the right to be happy now?

PMSL

The job I do now is the same as I did it 20 years ago, and it will be the same in 20 years time, you cite pay and working conditions. well taking the latter first....i drive a car, hows that gonna change? as for pay, i think - as you and skull are retired - you should leave the decision on pay to me (in my case), its called personal choice

I also know people who work longer hours for less take home pay

Are you completely barking, take “working conditions," you think this has something to do with your car? #-o Eh no, working conditions can mean a whole raft of things and yes. Your vehicle is in there too but so is, your working environment, personal safety/danger issues, for instance, being attacked or putting yourself and the public at risk by working too long hours, the stress this causes the impact on one's health and family life. :-|

Your low pay and long hours may be the largest contributing factor to all the above, although because you have no real representation, and the fact that you would rather wallow in your own servility, we will probably never really know. #-o

As I said before Wannabeeahack, you’re as crazy as a shi*house rat, hell-bent on public, self-flagellation. #-o

I only work days, never been out after 8pm

Your low pay (im happy with what Im getting though, which fcks up your theory) and long hours (you dont know me do you) may be the largest contributing factor to all the above, although because you have no real representation (ive got a tongue in my head and can walk anytime), and the fact that you would rather wallow in your own servility, we will probably never really know. Your barking up the wrong tree mate, £600-700 a week for 45 hours a week? does for me bud

As I said before Wannabeeahack, you’re as crazy as a shi*house rat, hell-bent on public, self-flagellation.

I do 30 hours over 3 days cash and 10 hours school contract per week, and im downtrodden? yeah.....

I thought we were talking about your trade in general terms, there are of course, exceptions to the rule but my statement still applies, but you as usual refuse to even look at it. "Everything is rosy in my garden. Therefore, the taxi trade is wonderful." #-o

Oh I see. This is about you being able to feel good about yourself. Well, why didn't you say? And here's me thinking you were looking forward to debating the broader issues. #-o

In the future, why don't you start every post with, "I am a happy dinosaur living in my own wee world? Oh and if it doesn't affect me. It's not happening." #-o #-o #-o #-o
