Ilyas Sheikh subjected teenager to terrifying hour-long ordeal

A Birmingham minicab driver who sexually assaulted a young passenger in his cab in a terrifying ordeal lasting more than an hour has been jailed for four years.

Private hire driver Ilyas Sheikh, 34, of Pool Farm Road, Acocks Green, was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court after being found guilty of sexual assault at an earlier trial. He will also remain on the Sex Offenders Register for the rest of his life.

The court heard that Sheikh picked up a 19-year-old woman and three friends from Broad Street last April. He dropped off three of the passengers, but took the teenager on a terrifying journey through the south of Birmingham into the Worcestershire countryside, where he sexually assaulted her.

A spokesman for the West Midlands Police Safeguarding Team at Birmingham Central said: “The terrified victim was assaulted by Sheikh and even though at one point they drove through Hopwood Services, she was too scared to ask for help.

“Unfortunately she didn’t have a mobile phone with her either and so was unable to make a call for help. He took her to the middle of nowhere and sexually assaulted her.”

Her ordeal lasted nearly an hour. Eventually the woman was dropped near to her home.

Sheikh was arrested after his vehicle was identified on CCTV.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said; “Sheikh used his position as a private hire driver to prey on a vulnerable lone female and put her through quite an ordeal.

“This should serve as a warning to those who abuse their position as a private hire driver or those who unlawfully use their vehicles for the purpose of taxiing.

“The victim had strength to give evidence at court and I hope with this conviction, it will give confidence to other victims of sexual assault.”

There is no doubt a lot of people, mainly young ladies, are sadly getting assaulted like this.

But it is worthy of note that nearly every day we read about the culprits being jailed.

Aye..the ones they catch, how many more go free and never get reported, besides if It's every day then we have a serious issue as to who's getting licenced so freely and is there any link to specific groups within our modern society more prone to perpetrating this type of assault due to them having a set of different values and morals.

Now don't quote me on this because I can't remember where I read it. Apparently, if you make an FOI request asking for the figures relating to specific groups committing sexual assaults, you will be refused the information. So it does exist.

I think a freedom of information request was made and the results were passed to the LC during their consultation. Clearly you couldn't ask directly about such matters but some areas had higher sexual assualts ratio than others and as far as I'm aware there are still a couple of areas yet to answer the FOI request

Let's not beat about the bush, everyone knows exactly what you are implying, just because these scummy type do this kind of thing doesn't mean that people like you should use it as an excuse to peddle your propaganda.

These guys are vile and deserve to be dealt with according to the law of the land and then meet LEroy.

Let's be quite clear, rape and religion is a general search term and could apply to any religious grouping. Oh and that's the funny thing about me ums. Nothing is off the table when it comes to debating. And if you really think about it, it should be the same for you...
