Telford taxi driver cut in knife attack

A taxi driver needed 11 stitches after a passenger launched a "random" knife attack on him in Telford.

The victim, a man in his 40s, suffered a cut to his hand when a man grabbed him from behind and pushed a knife towards his face.

The unprovoked attack happened in Mossey Green, Ketley Bank at about 10pm last night.

Chris Ammonds for West Mercia Police said: "The taxi driver received a call from the new Asda in Malinsgate at abaout 9.45pm asking to be taken to Mossey Green in Ketley Bank.

"The driver, a man in his late 40s, picked up a man and a woman.

"The man is described as being between 18 and 20-years-old, of skinny build and wearing a dark green hoodie with the hood pulled up.

"He got in the seat behind the driver. The female was described as being between 18 and 20-years-old, of skinny build with light brown hair to below her shoulders. She was wearing an orange jumper and she got in the back next to the man.

"The driver took them to the end of Mossey Green where the road reaches a dead end and suddenly without warning the man grabbed the taxi driver from behind.

"He threatened him with a knife, pushing it towards his face. The taxi driver got hold of the knife and ripped it from the man's grasp. The knife snapped and the man and woman got out of the taxi and ran off up a footpath which runs along Mossey Green Way.

"They were heading in the direction of where the road crossed over the M54. The taxi driver sustained quite a nasty cut to the his left hand which bled an awful lot and required 11 stitches at the Princess Royal Hospital."

Mr Ammonds said police were extremely keen to speak to anyone who had any information about this "random" and "unprovoked" attack.

Police would especially like to speak to anyone who saw a man and woman matching the description at the taxi phone booth at Asda or running along Mossey Green Way.

Anyone with any information should call police on 101 quoting crime reference 761S130514 or information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555111.

Be frankly amazed if they don't catch Mr and Mrs Scumbag.

And suspect both will get long prison sentences.
