For all intents and purposes, this country has had a two-party first past the post political system for a long time. Oh and Trotsk, Labour is far right of Thatcher on the political spectrum. There is no Left-wing Labour anymore. The "workers" party lost their way with Tony Blair. As for Ed Miliband, he's just another posh boy following in the footsteps of Thacher, Cameron, Blair and Brown.

I think what we are witnessing here with Nigel Farage, is the rise of jingoistic Nationalism, regardless of the spin he likes to put on it. People are so disenfranchised with Cameron et al that Farage seems to be the only one talking sense, and the proletariat is lapping it up.

Farage, is basically telling people he intends to put the "Great" back into Britain and that the other parties have sold you out to a wealthy elite, the banks and Europe.

Oh and he has a point, the Tory's, Labour and Lib Dems are completely out of touch with the British public. :-|

First, tell me, the percentage of people in this country who actually cast a vote? Oh and what was it, an 8% swing of Labour voters to UKIP?

The point I am making, is that growing numbers of people are making a lot of effort to put UKIP, in the running. The same cannot be said for the Tory's or Labour. Farage has tapped into a groundswell of public opinion that has yet to be quantified, and the "big" two seem to be powerless to respond.

On a more personal note, I don't think the public like Cameron, Miliband or Clegg as leaders, they are too similar in almost every respect. They are just posh boys who are out of touch with the general public. :-|

Labour is finished as the workers' party, at least for the time being. The Tory's are well, the Tory's, there's not a lot one can add to that, as for UKIP. They are still an unknown entity, but they are the biggest upset to hit to British politics for many years. As for a protest vote, yes, I would agree up to a point, but I think they are starting to resonate with large sections of the British public, and are yet to make their true presence felt.

As for John McDonnell, he's a small left-wing voice in a right-wing political party where socialism has become a dirty word. :-|

Oh and Trosk, the Labour party is so far from its roots. I would have to watch the history channel to find out where it all started.

The interesting thing to me is who many traditionally Labour supporter have switch their votes to UKIP.

I think the boffins said 8%.

For the last 4/5 years Labour have been [edited by admin] themselves with laughter about the damage UKIP is doing to the Tories.

Methinks they took their eye of the ball. #-o

They took their eye off the ball when they supported Europe.

Labour caused all this shite when they opened the doors so they could get the migrant votes. It backfired on them.

I thought Labour did quite well in most places.

Is being just ahead of the tories doing quite well 12 months before the general election?

Listen, there are a lot of people voting for UKIP, who feel completely alienated by two-party politics in this country. And wouldn't vote for the posh boys' club and their banker chums, supposing their lives depended on it. Domestic policies don't matter to these people as they already see themselves as being totally shafted no matter who gets into power. Have a look at Nick Clegg and the Lib Dems. They are finished as a political party after jumping into bed with the Tories. Okay, so we are back to the default option of voting for Labour on domestic policy, that's not a choice - it's a condition- hence a swing to UKIP.

I think you might be in for a surprise Trotsk. Oh and I'm not saying that UKIP, will ever get into power, but they will affect party policy. =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>

Agreed.
It will drive the other parties even further to the right.
Now that might please Nidge and his EDL buddies but it won't do very much for the typical working class bloke who voted for these fekwits.

I agree, but while a lurch to the right is inevitable, it is the left-wing marginalised voter who feels forced into taking a stand, to protect right-wing values. Socialism is a dirty word, but nationalism is about defending your country against the immigrant horde, recreating their country of origin in your back yard and putting a stop to it.

Think about it, right and left bound by a common goal but both defending their country against a European invasion.

No one can predict where this is all heading, but Farage has captured common ground from both sides in the political divide, and he's claiming it as his own.

Oh and it might be nationalistic jingoism, but it’s working, and he knows what people are thinking, and he's not frightened to speak out. =D>
