A 1st post with no Axe to grind!..Id reckon that's blatant advertising or has more tongue in cheek than a Cows head in a butchers window.

And advertising it to taxi drivers who drive taxis and don't use taxis is going to work.

Ask Uber how you make a complaint against one of their minicab drivers?

Ask them who you would phone . . . like you would with any other London minicab firm.

That's not quite the point though, the act requires them to, Uber has no such facility.

Yet another part of the London PH act and licensing conditions they ignore whilst shouting legit to every Tory donor newspaper columnist they can bribe with a dinner at the Shard.

And can you really be 'bigging them up' when they're sending cars from Wandsworth to Gatwick for £50?

A 2/3 hour round trip, minus fuel at £10 and Ubers 20%? That's just slave wages.

What's next, Uber drivers paying punters to travel in their minicabs?

You complain to TfL.

In fact I would advise no-one to ring the booking operator in the event of a complaint.

What are the estimates on the number of drivers signed up in Manchester? This take up rate will give an indication of the effect its having on the local industry in such a short period of operation

That's not the procedure in London.

Complainants have to go through the licensed operator first. My question still stands.

But we already know the answer, you can't.

Only way to make a complaint, is to give the driver a one-star rating, where you are then able to make a comment about the driver/ride. Enough low ratings are enough to get the driver kicked off the system. Other than that, there's social media.

Airport trips are always going to be low fixed fares, to compete with other firms. £50 (£40, less the 20%) is the going rate, I reckon. About 25 to 35 miles to Gatwick from Wandsworth (depending on route), so £1.14 to £1.60 a mile is the norm for a minicab.

Paying a set commission rate of 20% is better than paying a fixed circuit/rent fee, most who work for Uber are part timers, so it makes more sense that way.

That's not what the licensing requirement states.

They can't just invent an alternative.

I'm very busy at night, there's a lot of demand after midnight Fri/Sat, I'll just introduce a £25 minimum for every journey?

Lets all just do as we like.

Is there no requirement for a landline telephone number for private hire booking offices? Or a permanent office address within the area? What is their registered address for all legal letters to be served?

There must be a centrally located office somewhere, where the drivers have to pick up their PDA, have some sort of training, do one of their knowledge tests perhaps (this could be done online, and the PDA sent out by post, I suppose), have their vehicle inspected. I expect they keep quiet about it's location?

Very strange, however I can't see any problem copying TfL.

As a private hire driver for the last 10 years I think Uber Manchester is the best thing that could have happened. The greedy owners of the privat hire two larger ones I have worked for have [edited by admin] us for ever penny, flooding the systems with more and more drivers charging us half track when we take a holiday, making us were uniform then charging us for replacement shirts, charging us for stickers. Promotions come out of our pocket. A take it or leave attitude. Drivers have had it with them and I for one am looking forward to watching there demise. Like Blockbuster thought they had the country sown up but did not see Netflicks comming, now there gone. Now we have something new to turn the industry on it's head which is what it needed. All the drivers wanted was a fair system but all bew ever got was bent over by the greedy t***s. I spent a month in the hospice with my mum, I paid my track, she passed the next day, asked the maniger for some help with the track he said it doosnt justify any help. So this is Karma babe, and it comes by the name of Uber.

Mappa.

The idea appeals to me but I don't want to be paying an app company 20% of my income thank you very much

It depends on what that income is.

I would sooner take 80% of a grand rather than 100% of £600.

In theory I guess the 80% sounds better but not if it takes more hours and miles to obtain. I prefer a simple fee eg £10 per week to app company.
