Down here we are notified that the plate will soon be needing to be renewed. The plate is only continued if the MOT (If needed) has been passed, meter had been checked and Insurance is in order........was everything else in order from your end? Did you receive notification of possible expiration of plate?

We get an MOT thrown in with the plate test+fee so if my plate expires so does my MOT which is quite important.....

Yes we do get a reminder. However at the time that this vehicle was "forgot" we had several other vehicles that needed testing. We have not tried to blame any other entity but ourselves but I did point out that the time scale from issuing the reminders and the date at which the test can be carried out is inconsistent. In that in some cases the reminder will come out 2 weeks before the plate expires and in other cases it will be 2 months. Now you can't have a vehicle tested until 30 days before the expiry of the plate so if you get a reminder 2 months before the test is due, you can't test the vehicle at that time. If, as happened in our case, you then get reminders for vehicles that are due sooner, it is easy to forget the original reminder. for instance, at the moment I have a reminder on our bulletin board that was sent out on June 12th. The inspection is not due until July 31st so I can't test it yet. But I know that I also have a vehicle due for it's inspection by July 15th but as yet, no reminder has been received. Confused? I am.

Please don't forget what I said about asking for a copy of the council's enforcement code.

The council must have a policy which they must follow, else any action they take will, IMO, be deemed unlawful.

That policy might, and many do, say for a first offence a written warning might be sent. If that's the case then maybe that's worth considering.

I don't know why councils put expiry dates on plates, I have had the same one since licencing began here,
As long as the cab passes the test , and the testing station faxes the paperwork, we just keep on working

What is the relevance of this?

Ok, this is not a witch hunt as we can all be bogged down to time & forgetting to do what we have to do. I am asking the question to determine as to how much poop you are really in, as it does move boundaries/consequences.

The question...............
Quote:
The plate is only continued if the MOT (If needed) has been passed, meter had been checked and Insurance is in order........was everything else in order from your end?
..........is it more than just forgetting?

No, it was a simple case of forgetting. The license expired on March 11th and it was noticed on March 18th. It is now over 3 months since it happened. I was interviewed within days of the event. I can't understand the delay in interviewing my wife. Also the driver has not yet been contacted by the council regarding the matter. Because the license had expired I was not able to re=apply for the plate because the vehicle would have been treated as a new vehicle and because it was over 6 years old it was outside of the age policy for a new vehicle.

It doesn't matter Skip it was still out of date. Hasn't your Council got Mogo plates yet?

Ours is looking at doing away with the new plate every year and going on to one plate for the life of the vehicle.

It's a bit daft trying to treat this as a "new" vehicle to the system. I'd appeal against their refusal to re-issue the plate to the magistrates court, you'll probably win on that matter as you could probably plead memory loss due to advancing years ( )...

So if the scenario was that the car had to go for test at renewal as they do round here and it failed the test for whatever reason and subsequently passed a couple of weeks later waiting for parts, that would be treated as a renewal, not an expired plate.

Maybe they've sussed you for faecal agitation over their lack of enforcement on outsiders failing to display plates? :?

Did you transport passengers while the plate was expired?

If the vehicle does not pass the test on time, even waiting for parts, then it would be a new application.

I was trying to find out if the rest of the paperwork was in order IE mot taxi test and so forth, and as you put plate expired, I thought it was one with a stupid expiry date stamped to it.

No Nidge, we can use a hard back one, or sticky back plastic depending on the vehicle, and so we don't have to drill holes
