and finally :D

Just read this on confused.com....

Cancelling at the start of the policy
UK insurance rules state that consumers have a 14-day ‘cooling-off’ period when they buy most kinds of cover. This means that, if you want to end a policy within two weeks of receiving your documentation, you should receive a more-or-less full refund of your premiums. But you may have to pay an administration fee, which is typically less than a full cancellation charge, as well as the cost of however many days you were covered for.

So if your policy hasn’t come into effect when you cancel, you should only have to pay the administration charge. You won’t be able to cancel in this way if you’ve made any claims within the cooling-off period.

...seems the way to go 8)

www.tempcover.com

£102 for fully comp in EU for 12 days.

Can get £8 back via quidco too.

Think I'll be going down this road. There is a section where you can enter a discount code. If anyone can find one please post on here. Cheers.

Just checked on other forums like piston heads and there are a good few posts claiming paying extra for EU cover is like throwing money down the drain as it's usually always 3rd party cover anyway. If they do claim "comprehensive" cover, all insurance companies claim difference variations on this for EU cover. If people really want fully comprehensive you're paying top dollar basically - which I think is going to be around the £160/£200 for 12 days or so.

not sure what vehicle you have, i assume its not a "London cab" type, is there any reason you cant have your H&R policy AND a private/non-H&R annual policy, F/C inc Europe? it wouldnt cost £200 for 12 days would it

Email back from Aviva..

Dear Mr ********,

Thank you for your enquiry,

Our policies are fully comprehensive within the UK, with automatic third party European cover. The option on the second page of the application allows the applicant to upgrade the European insurance to fully comprehensive for an additional cost.

I am afraid we are unable to provide stand alone European cover.

Kind regards,

Cheers for the replies guys.

I've been to the south of France and Belgium before and it's funny the looks you get from people....."that must be a good job!" :D

I've been in touch with my broker and I can't get fully comp...they don't do it for travel to the EU - they are only prepared to give me the Green card (which they are trying to say is £15! - jokers) As I understand it I don't require the green card for 99% of France / Belgium / Holland. - and it should be free anyway I believe.

What my main concern is would be theft, and any advice on how to cover this would be appreciated on this. The Caddy is worth about £20k.

Cheers

at the end of the day its still a car, it being plated is just a side issue

Not even a side issue, the taxi/ph is a private car where the acts don't apply.
