Taxi Driver Online

I have had a call from one of our drivers. He got stopped by the police for not wearing his seat belt. He has been given a notice of intended prosecution. The police officer gave him a right telling off and told him that he should know better being a professional driver. Now given that he was plying for hire at the time, would he be within his rights to go down to the police station in the morning and speak to the officer and tell him that he should know better being a professional policeman?

(i) a licensed taxi while it is being used for seeking hire, or answering a call for hire, or carrying a passenger for hire, or

(ii) a private hire vehicle while it is being used to carry a passenger for hire;

The copper was not right. Taxi drivers are exempt whilst plying for hire or carrying passengers. I have also just been told that it is a new policeman and he has stopped several taxi drivers today and given them all a notice of intended prosecution. A period of re training may be required.

I've been pulled a few times by the police and these new coppers who are after a stripe on their shirt, a quick flick of the button turns the iPad on and shows the coppers they're wrong.

A taxi driver with a works radio, and possibly now with a mobile, is always seeking work.

The police officer is a tit, and it will be good when his sergeant points out the law to him when you remind his Inspector.
