So you want to divide England as well in the name of Scottish independence...your so generous, yet all the time you cozy up still further with Brussels and immerse yourself deeper into an even bigger union that will eventually and fairly soon control every single aspect of your life from cradle to grave, Holyrood will be no more than a Regional Authority puppet parliament within a Federal EU superstate, certainly not a decision making autonomous seat of self government that you Indies think your going to gain by breaking up the UK.
If you Guys said true independence was out of the UK and out of the EU...then even I would vote YES, but your not after real Independence at all, you just want a divorce from England just for the sake of it while you ignore the real EU elephant in the room that will crush all your rights to self determination and remove your sovereign right to make your own laws and Political decisions..
At least as part of the UK we have some say in Europe but under independence that will diminish to Zero, 5 Million Scots will have no say in a EU superstate of 500 Million people. And certainly you'll never be allowed a Referendum to leave the EU, at least as part of the UK we have a faint glimmer of a chance of one in 2017 or so.
Actually I am after real independence, Norway style. And I am in favour of totally leaving the EU. Regrettably though many of my fellow Scots are not like-minded, and seem passionately devoted to the idea of EU membership. I have to sadly respect that opinion. It is the policy of the Scottish government to hold a future referendum on EU membership, in which three primary choices will be presented - 1) stay in EU, 2) stay in EU with REDUCED EU powers, 3) come out of EU completely. It will be the democratic choice of the Scottish people to decide on that.
You are effectively asking me which is worse - the EU or England. I don't really hate England, English people can come and live here all they want - and I used to go out with an English girl. But in respect of the history it is a truly sickening story of how Scotland has been throttled, bankrupted, and split into two by English sabotage and interference. England has always been the great enemy of Scotland and has willfully destroyed all of its attempts to prosper, for example in the time of William Wallace by sinking ships of Scotland's trading partners from Northern European, Scandinavian, Baltic countries in an effort to cut Scotland off from the rest of the world, and greatly impoverish it. That was why Wallace fought so far against them, and why Robert Bruce turned against them also, to get away from that certified lunatic of a King Edward I, the self-titled 'Hammer of the Scots'. Why would we want a 'union' with someone who wants to 'hammer' us?
Scotland was also rendered bankrupt by England in the Darien Venture leading to a forced and deeply unpopular 'Union' in 1707, deliberately quashing Scottish power and supremacy - England has always been afraid of the power of the Scots - there is no other reason that the Union exists.
In an era of democracy it is utterly intolerable that a nation of 5 million people have no democratic vote on their own governance - the vote of England always carries by sheer bulk - we effectively do not have a vote. In this day and age that is simply not acceptable, not for ANY nation. The following small European countries are all successful on their own and all have a democratic vote, and NONE of them are ruled by a larger neighboring nation.

And the United States could not have developed as the nation it has become if it remained in a Union with England - hence the United States Declaration of Independence of 1776, a document modelled on the former Scottish Declaration of Independence of 1320 - hence the USA fought hard to break away from Britain. And now Obama tells us not to pursue that same independence that has built his nation and has given him all the freedoms and opportunities that he has enjoyed - thanks for that Barack.
You are asking me what is worse - a continued EU membership, or another round of the likes of Iain Duncan Smith, George Osborne and David Cameron - nobody in Scotland wants them - but if the Scots want the EU then that is their democratic choice, I have to respect that. I'm not giving up my national sovereignty just so England can bail me out of EU.
