A TEENAGER was left seriously injured after being attacked in Liverpool city centre.

The 17-year-old victim was chased by a gang before being assaulted near to the McDonald's in Great Charlotte Street.

Police said he suffered head injuries after a row broke out at around 7.15am this morning.

Detectives today appealed for the driver of a black cab which the attacker got into to step forward. Two female passengers already inside the Hackney cab were also asked to help police.

A force spokesman said: “It is believed that the 17-year-old had been involved in an argument with a group of males and had run off.

“The group caught up with the victim who was then assaulted by one of the males.

“The offender then got in to a black Hackney cab on Great Charlotte Street, which already had two women passengers inside. The victim was taken to hospital where he is being treated for his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.

“Detectives are appealing to the taxi driver, or the women passengers in the cab, to come forward as they could have information which could help them to find the offender.”

The victim was taken to hospital. The force said his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

A number of road closures were put in place to allow forensic examinations to be carried out. CCTV was also set to be recovered.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has information which could help detectives with their inquiries, is asked to contact St Anne Street CID on 0151 777 4065, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

They'll know which cab it is when they look at the CCTV.

They will know even sooner if the driver rings them up.

True but to be honest I don't know why they haven't looked at the CCTV before asking the cabbie to come forward. This is a busy area with lots of cameras. Usually the people watching the cameras relay information to police if a fight or disturbance is going on etc, so I can't really understand why they don't have the footage.
