On 4 aug 2005 Liverpool taxi committee, is going to consider the approval of the peugeot E7 , for use on the streets of Liverpool . The vehicle can seat 7 people . Its 50% cleaner than F X 4 t x1 tx2 . They are also a lot cheeper . The biggest objectors to it , are the T & G , they feel so strongly that one of their men will address the council meeting , opposing the new vehicle . Now one of there objections to it, is its to big . Now as a taxi driver , with john lennon aiport down the road . I have trouble fitting two people, with luggage in my cab . So this should be ideal for 5 people with cases . They also use the old crap about turning circles , rank space , dont see the problem my self . I may be a bit cinical but is this yet , another case of the T & G doing whats best for the fleet owner and not giving a f---- for the plonker who give them 3 quid a week . WHO DO THE T&G REPRESENT ? PERHAPS MAC WILL RESPOND . STREETCAR.

All that shower are interested in is jobs for the boys in the Midlands. They couldn't give a f*** about drivers. [-(

What is so very wrong about allowing drivers to decide what they want to drive, not a union led by a bus driver?

If the E7 is licensed, then I expect other Euro - type cabs will follow. Perhaps we'll see the new T1 and the like working the streets of Liverpool.

These must be scary times for LTI and Metrocab. At least Metrocab is used to troubled times.

It'll be very interesting to see what happens, this could well set an example for other cities - perhaps, Edinburgh will make a decision and Manchester.

Interesting reading. :?

http://councillors.liverpool.gov.uk/Pub ... ocA.ps.pdf

I see the police have reservations that when doing a u-turn vehicles might clip the pavements. [-(

Just for the record does anyone know of a police force that thinks doing a u-turn on the road is a good thing, apart from that is the thicko's of Liverpool? :?

Thanks for the web site very interesting reading . :avoiding 3 point turns reduces pollution and running costs . Scousers are to thick to open sliding doors . Doors should open out wards, so other cars can be allerted to people getting out of the taxi . You should not be letting people out in the middle of the road any way . The police want you to do u turns . I wonder if the police have got reservations or is that just a porky . Does any body think that any of this is true . There must only be the licensing officer and the taxi committee thick enough to belive this drivel . Perhaps the committee will for once, prove me wrong and make a decision with the public and the taxi driver in mined , not just the T& G and fleet owners . Why fleet owners and the T&G dont want this vehicle, i dont see perhaps your right , its to keep mr Coventry on his megabucks . Thanks streetcar .

Some LA's have made drivers of E7 - type cabs apply stickers advising passengers to exit only via the nearside door. Personall, the safety issue isn't what concerns me, but the fact that many passengers don't find sliding doors easy to operate. How many times would you have to get out the cab to close a door that has not closed onto the catch.

They're certainly not as practical as the conventional doors on the TX, Fairway and Metrocab vehicles.

you will find that you have to get out and open the sliding doors more often than getting out to close them the public are still having problems with them in dundee ,they have been on for 18 months and the public still cant crack them, they are also very uncomfortable to drive sore legs and backs are guaranteed , dundee council refused to let us go for the electirc step so all cabs have manual steps this usually means around a dozen trips outside your cab to operate it per shift, nearly all the e7,eurobus owners are saying they wont put on anonther one quite a few have swapped them for second hand txs

Come off it! What’s so difficult abour a flipping sliding door? I’ve got an 807 on the private hire and an E7 I drive myself on the ranks in Brum. Never had any issue with doors on either of them. What DOES matter is that the E7 was cheaper to buy, cheaper to run and it’s way better to drive than a TX. NO WAY would I accept being forced to drive a TX – especially with that crappy Transit engine.

I agree Iceman, but more importantly it seems the DfT do as well.

DfT draft best practise guidance.

13. The legislation gives local authorities a wide range of discretion over the types of vehicle that they can license as taxis or PHVs. Some authorities specify conditions that in practice can only be met by purpose-built vehicles but the majority license a range of vehicles.

14. Normally, the best practice is for local licensing authorities to adopt the principle of specifying as many different types of vehicle as possible. Indeed, local authorities might usefully specify only general criteria, (such as vehicles with four doors as taxis) leaving it open to the taxi and PHV trades to put forward vehicles of their own choice which can be shown to meet those criteria. In that way there can be flexibility for new vehicle types to be readily taken into account.

Liverpool taxi licensing committee meeting 4-8-05 The application for the E 7 taxi to be used in Liverpool , The committee decided the application should be refused for the following reasons .---------- The vehicle does not meet the public carriage office conditions, of fitness which Liverpool council applies to assess the suitability of vehicles, as hackney carriages in Liverpool . The committee has particular concerns, over safety issues reguarding sliding doors and the use of wheel chair access ramp . Streetcar .
