I am not quite sure what you are asking. Firstly if you are a hackney and the job is wholly within your district, then the meter should be used. you can of course charge less than the fare on the meter but not more. If you are PH then the fare should be agreed with the customer.

If we followed your logic then you would be running uninsured if the punter gave a wrong/false name?

What happens when you get a restaurant job for table 4? Do you have to see the punters eating first?

What happens when you get a 'see staff' job? Are you uninsured if the wrong member of staff points out the punter, or they are waiting outside?

What happens when no name is giving? Are all those jobs uninsured jobs?

My point is you are a nana.

The job was booked with the PH base so i dont think it will matter in law as long as both vehicles were despatched by the same operator

It seems to be a common fallacy that insurance ceases to be valid when you pick up certain people.

yea but if there was a crash and insurance had to pay out big time the first thing they would do is try and get out of it, if i dont take the actual job that ive been designated am i insured or not

If you want the definitive answer I would suggest that you ask your insurers.

You have to make your best efforts.

If you call out a name and the wrong punter gets in, you are insured.

If the firm has two jobs at the same place and you pick up the wrong one, then you are insured.

The job has been booked through a licensed operator and is being undertaken by a licensed driver driving a licensed vehicle.

Not sure there is much illegal going on to make the job uninsured.

Have a look at your insurance policy. Mine say words to the effect of "the carriage of passenger for hire and reward", no conditions, stipulations or anything else.

Our base gives out jobs from the office (to the first car in queue) without a name or destination, when you turn up there could be half a dozen punters waiting - you pick up whoevers been waiting longest. I presume thats legal or they would'nt do it :?:

It must be the same then if you get a job from a house where there are multiple passengers/destinations. From anywhere else I thought you had to pick up the person named on the job, if you don't get the passenger named is it not akin to picking up a non pre-booked job (that person may have booked with the office but the jobs gone to a different driver)?

It will also say 'not valid when the vehicle is being used to commit an offence'. Picking up someone YOU have not been booked for might be an offence even if that person has made a booking through the office.

Our council require that operators take a name and destination and that is who the driver is to pick up, nothing too complicated really. For restaurants and such like, a name or table number will suffice. I have to say tho that the favourite destination here is 'as directed'
