The people who I know use Delta because of the price, but now are using other taxis because they are cheaper. These taxi companies provide a quick and relaible service. I use to use Delta because of the price, but now use another company which are cheaper and provide just a relaible service as Delta.

I've only ever used a company based on service and cleanliness of their vehicles.

Are there really firms undercutting Delta?

the taxis I use are cheaper than delta. I think some taxi companies may be pitching thier prices cheaper than Delta. This is just plain old competition.

What you find with some taxi companies in Liverpool they are running mileage only when you phone up and book at set rates. They intend to get back the work they have lost over to Delta and I think they're doing well with it. Liverpool was always one of those places you could walk outside and flag a cab but the with advent of Delta people started ringing more for taxis. The Taxi Alliance in Liverpool is fighting back against Delta, consists of both ph and taxi drivers and also offers free help and advice to drivers. It seems to me that they are finally getting their act together and instead of fighting against each other they are fighting together against Delta.

The other thing about Delta is the further you go the dearer the mileage becomes but nobody has really noticed that.

It doesn't become dearer, it's £2.30 for first mile, £1.50/mile thereafter, and £2.60/£1.60 on weekends.

And yes there are firms with cheaper prices, none of them by very much though.

That was incorrectly written I apologise, what I meant is although we have a start rate of £3.30 for the 1st mile, over distance Delta become dearer than us but nobody notices it because of the first mile being cheaper.

Okay then, how far would I have to travel to save £2 on my journey?

Delta did quite well in Liverpool. They advertised their services very well, but due to this, other taxi companies are now doing the same. In Liverpool a lot of the taxi trade depends on students. Delta had it cornered it seems. Now you have certain company, that uses black cabs, but charges private hire rates, the students are flocking to them.

"Due to this, other taxi companies are doing the same" What? Due to Delta advertising, other taxi companies are advertising?

"a lot of" "flocking to" hmm bit vague those statements, where did you get this information? besides, the black cabs can have the students with their £2 trips from Marybone to Seel st and back again. I'm happy to do the Maghull, Formby, Huyton and airport runs.:)

That depends on which company it is some run at £1.20, £1.30 and £1.40 per mile but they all seem to start the first mile at £3.30 although the flag fall is £2.70 at some. It surprises me the customer knows how much anything is tbh.

Same here. One of our rivals starts 40p cheaper at flag drop but runs 20p a mile more expensive. So cheaper for first mile (by 20p), equal for second and anything over 2 miles you pay more.
But like you say, customer only notices the flag drop, and the rivals adverts shout 'unlike our competitors our meters start at just £2.00 why pay more'

OK, let's assume it's £3.30 then 1.20 per mile.
3 miles £5.70 Delta £5.30
5 miles £8.10 Delta £8.30
10 miles £14.10 Delta £15.80

So basically I'd have to travel more than 10 miles to get any significant saving. It's just not enough to change customers' decisions, I don't think.

all you guys racing to the bottom - if the government ever stopped tax credits for the self employed the minicab trade would collapse within days.
