Here's a cracking book for you to read Gus: The Looming Tower: Al Qaeda's Road to 9/11 by Lawrence Wright.

It will give you a greater understanding of how radical Islam was nearly always on a collision course with western society. If certain governments had left them alone, I really don't think it would have made that much of a difference to the outcome with an ideology like theirs.

Gus, a comment like that is nothing more than a sound bite or snap shot of a far more complex situation. And while there may be some truth in what the author writes, it is typically a rehash of something that’s been said many times before and does not confront the serious issue of religious fanaticism within Islam.

And as I have said many times before, IS want nothing short of a pure Islamic State governed by Sharia Law. They believe that Sharia Law comes directly from God and cannot be changed or improved upon. In short, they do not want any kind of western influence that might corrupt their vision of a road back to the time of their Prophet and they will murder anyone who gets in their way, Muslim or Christian alike.

IS is not something that can be ignored any longer.

Regardless, IS is only the force it is today because of past and present failings in US and UK foreign policy.

You may oppose their religious fanaticism and the various governments now involved in bombing them may cite it as their reason for doing so.
Truth is, they don't give a [edited by admin] about their religion or their politics. They created this monster because it was expedient at the time. They now want to destroy it because it has gotten out of control.


IS don't matter in the grand scheme of things and neither do any of us.

Yes, I agree and hindsight is a wonderful thing and we can all be wise after the event but IS has roots in radical Islam’s distant past and now has to be dealt with in the present.
