It is true to say, Britain and America have created power vacuums all over the Middle East, and are responsible for training and arming the very groups that go to make up ISIS. And now, ISIS is hitting back by baiting the West into another very expensive conflict, in order to swell their ranks with hate filled fighters, on its road to a global jihad. And when you think about it, it’s not a bad strategy. There is also the problem of the wests economic ability to wage, an almost indefinite war, against ISIS in Iraq and its supporters around the world.

I really don’t think the west has any alternative but to use WMD’s to solve the ISIS problem. It might be the only way to rid the world of ISIS, without bankrupting the west in the process and its ability to fight wars in the future.

And how do you make that out, I'm the one advocating the use of WMD's to solve the problem? In fact, I don't think the west has any alternative. You can't just ignore ISIS, like you would do, and allow them to grow stronger and more dangerous by the minute. And you can't fight a conventional war indefinitely, it has to have an end point, where either you enemy capitulates or you annihilate them altogether.

Oh and Gusmac, how about upping your game by tying to make a serious contribution to the thread?

Al-Quaeda was a database of Mujaheddin fighters created by the Americans in the Russian Afghan war. As for the rest of Robin Cooks statement, it's out of date because ISIS is formed out of all the groups we've supported in the past and now, their ideology is about creating a global caliphate on religious grounds. ISIS is in fact, a terrorist organisation in every sense of the word.

ISIS is at best a threat to the people of the Middle East. They are being bigged up by the usual suspects as an excuse for more war. Lots of arms and oil contracts, lots of lovely greenbacks for the usual war profiteers.

I agree, Robin Cook was (almost) spot on 10 years ago. The only thing that's change is that all our chickens have come home to roost. ISIS is a very real terrorist organisation which is religiously motivated and funds itself through extortion rackets and captured oil wells. It is a formidable force in the middle east and is fighting and winning even more ground for it's Islamic State. Oh and this ideology won't stop there, and their leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has said exactly that and promised a war on the west.

And in case you haven't noticed, ISIS has support form Islamist fanatics around the globe.

ISIS is without a doubt a very serious terrorist threat and only a fool would ignore it.

Oh and Gusmac, wars that have a beginning must also have an end and no nation can wage a conventional war, indefinitely, and Al-Baghdadi knows this.

So good try Gus, it would be nice if you could come up with something that I don't already know.
