Sussex, you need to lock this thread, the points that are being made are way to informative for your average, simpleton taxi driver to even comprehend. #-o #-o #-o I'm completely overwhelmed.

TT with respect you are out of touch with what is happening outside London. As an individual I do not charge less than the metered fare.........but having worked in Newport (Gwent), I can to a degree understand (although I don't agree) as to why they do. The problem (and this is not a dig, just a statement of facts) is that if these guys do not do it (The Hacks) then you can be sure that P.H company will. Our L.A do nothing to stop P.H working off of the streets, who in many cases are working quite blatantly about the streets, anyway that is just a part of the problem and I am not looking to argue on that one.

London is the U.K fifth country, and entirely different due to so much money being pumped in compared to other parts of the country. When you live and work in an area where they will think nothing of running up bar bills in excess of thousands, where the worlds best cars run around, where property prices have gone through (unintended pun) the roof......it is easy to lose sight of the state of the rest of the country - this country is still in the sh!t big time.....the exception as ever London.

My window cleaner asked for a price for a return journey to East Midlands Airport. I gave him a fair quote, (fair to me, that is, he doesn't do mates rates for me) I didn't get the job, he went with a PH company for £12 less. At 0100 on Wednesday morning, no cab. He eventually found his cab in the short stay car park, asleep! Anyway, he got in, went to sleep himself, and woke up a little later, saw a road sign that said, TAMWORTH! Heading for Birmingham, rather than Lincoln. Oh how I laughed when he told me. BTW, anyone know of a cheap window cleaner in Lincoln?

CC Frustration at Drivers destroying their own industry out of stupidity somewhat irritates me this behaviour has a knock on effect they all expect it and then the downward spiral escalates.

Maybe now the driver concerned will think twice about repeating this activity #-o

Read Grandads comment that she was rounding the charge to an even amount ................WHY i would expect them round it up to include a reasonable tip!

As if frequently state i believe it should be an offence to charge less than the metered fare.

Any way if your reading this Driver concerned heres my appology's, if you were offended sorry its just my frustration boiling over

It happened again last night. A group of customers went from a village south of our town to Sat Bains in Nottingham. A round trip of 50 miles each journey. the return was booked for 23.30. The driver had to wait 40 minutes after this time before they were ready to leave. The total fare for the 2 journeys was just over £100, so the driver said just make it £100. The customer kicked off saying that he usually pays £35 each way with his usual driver. Eventually he threw £100 at her saying it was a rip off. It was less than the metered fare. Mind you he left the restaurant bill in the car.
There were supposed to be 6 of them dining but one cancelled. The cost for each meal was £99.00 but the cancelled meal was £100.00. With the various extras and drinks the bill came to £1,108.28 including the tip of £112.03. the 6 bottles of wine came to over £300.00
And they quibble about the taxi fare.

I can see it now.

Young buck goes into a club. The lager sets him back £4. he says to barperson, just make it £3. Barperson calls security and he is ejected.

But its OK to do this to a cabby ...

Certainly blacks are too expensive. But its the high rentals, insurance, repairs etc that benefit. Not the driver.

Everytime the tariff increases the vultures take their cut, the driver working longer for not much more, while the discounting competition seizes yet another opportunity to take away ever more of his custom, making it even harder to cut it.

And here in Edinburgh the Law of equality doesn't stretch to him or her being allowed to break the cycle of greed by getting their own operator's licence.

BTW When companies discount fares, it's not the companies paying for it. Nor the insurance companies. Nor the owners. Nor the servicers.

Nope, it comes off the cabbies bottom line. Cabbies pay for the discounts.

So, next time a big multi-national global business empire gets a discount, should cabbies touch their forelocks and rejoice in how they, and their wives and children, are subsidising these megaliths of capitalism.

=D> Congratulations guys ....

Which is why at least the Skull and I have the sense never to have been a Skippy like cabby, and not cabbies now.

But they don't. The lager costs £3.80 and they say 'heres £4 keep the change', and they do that all night long.

So after 10 pints, giving the barman (who is already being paid at least minimum wage) £2 in tips, they then stagger into a cab, give the driver loads of abuse and then expect to pay less than what it says on the clock.

The number of times I've done £5.20 or £5.40 fares and the punters say 'fiver ok wth you?' and then start arguing because 'it's only 20p', yet if it was a £4.80 fare they'd be the first to moan if I didn't give them the 20p back from a fiver!
