Sanderstead man attacks minicab driver after failing to pay £33 fare for ride homeA SANDERSTEAD man threatened and kicked a minicab driver and brandished a knife after failing to pay a £33 fare for his ride home, a court heard.
David Kilby, 27, of Limpsfield Road, kicked Station Cars driver Jan Nouri twice and shouted “F*** you, you’re an illegal in this country” after he invited the driver to follow him to his house to collect payment for the fare at 2am on October 20.
He then “came at” Mr Nouri holding a seven inch kitchen knife in his hand, before the victim got in his minicab and drove off.
At Croydon Magistrates' Court this morning (Friday), Kilby pleaded guilty to failing to pay the fare, possessing a knife, assault by beating and using threatening, abusive or insulting language.
Prosecutor Caroline Mungal told the court Mr Nouri was attacked after Kilby tried to get him to walk to a “dark” car park near his home where Kilby said he would get the money for the fare.
“Mr Nouri said ‘this is wrong’, he started walking back to his car and said ‘can you please pay me now? I don’t want any trouble’ before warning he was going to call the police.
“Then Kilby kicked Mr Nouri at least twice. The first time connected with his left knee and the second on the left buttock, that caused Mr Nouri some discomfort.
It was then that Kilby shouted the abuse at Mr Nouri, before brandishing the knife.
Solicitor Gulcan Olurcan, representing Kilby, made no representations in his defence.
Magistrates declined jurisdiction to sentence Kilby. They bailed him to appear at Croydon Crown Court for sentencing on a date yet to be fixed.
