What a load of rubbish private hire can do just them same pre booked job or not I have turned lots of customers away from my car if I did not like the look of them. You get the normal rubbish like won't use your firm again but if you work for a decent outfit they will understand and let you judge for yourself who you want to carry in your cab. Sometime s it makes me glad we have private hire and the other lot as I am sure most private hire drivers would admit they would hate to have to rank up with the idiots who are the real taxi drivers.

Perhaps in Barnsley.

But not in London matey  Chi-Ching!

Can I introduce you to this character = . , thats Mr Full Stop and his wife MS Comma.

On a light note,

I suggest taking up bodybuilding (with steriods), learn kick-boxing & wear short sleeves to show off arms covered in tattoos

The taxi drivers round here seem to have done the above

Seriously though, I have always found that the best policies are to keep your mouth shut & your ears open, or act even cockier (I hope that's a word ?) than the punters & there bluff is called

All the best

Tell me thats not your current Taxi in your Avatar Mr Renfrewshire?

Hi

I too just started back as a Glasgow Private Hire Driver (after being on the buses for 6 years)

I know what Browning is meaning with the attitude of some passengers.

But I, as others have mentioned, always ask which way they prefer - that way they have less to start on you about.

You always get the odd customer who think they are wide - happens in most jobs where you deal with the public - the buses were the worst for me!

I actually got slashed 5 times while putting out a fire on my bus started by 5 18yo thugs - I was spat at countless times, threatened etc

Just remember Browning - you are not on your own out there mate - there are plenty other Private Hires and even some Hackney's who will lend a hand should a situation get out of control - just give them the lights etc

Cheers

Charlie

Ain't you proper taxi drivers supposed to pick up anyone who hails you when your light is on.

Or do you just use the rules as they suit you.
e.g You would go mad if a private hire car picked up a fare you had just refused even though your light was on.

In short the answer is no, you don't have to pick up if you are flagged and your light is on. Although standing on a Taxi rank plying for hire is different matter.

Eh?

To address your question about responding to street hails whilst running with the TAXI sign illuminated in London.

No.

Why would a Private Hire car stop in the first place to a street hail when he's clearly commiting an offence?

Or are you condoning touting and Illegal street pick ups?

Perhaps you could join the London Minicab trade? They need a strong spokesperson.

The point he is trying to make is that if all taxis picked up all the path work they blanked, then there would be nothing left for PH to pick up, albeit illegally.
