It's sad that so called colleagues think the way forward is to undercut fellow drivers ! Thankfully the vast majority here usually say first cab on the rank.On a personal note if someone wants to" backload " me on a rank it ain't happening, end of.

You are right (not said to somebody as Left as you very often), #-o is what you should be doing. Oh and "English" needed a capital letter as well!

I don't like to be a pedant normally, but the post Blackpool made was perfectly understandable. I would not personally use "Backload" but understood it to mean "Load behind me" and if you are honest, so did you.

I was attempting to show that whilst you can take a contrary position on a matter, to reduce it to a personal insult on the use of English, which changes from Town to Town, let alone from County to County, makes a sensible debate into something rather childish.

What can be done about a disfunctional rank, in other words how do we enforce/ensure the first taxi in the rank gets the next fare? In the town that i operate in customers choose their favourite drivers and jump in the rank anywhere they want. Obviously the drivers that benefit from this are in favour (they are also the drivers that are undercutting eveyone else with a £4 flat rate anywhere in town), but there is quite a few of us that are disgruntled over this unfair practice,

Usually a smack in the gob helps.

I operate in Whitby, North Yorkshire (under Scarborough Borough Council). Apparently im not the only one on the rank that has issues with the rank system and discount taxi firm. A meeting is been arranged with like-minded drivers on how to address this problem.

With all this cold weather on its way it's amazing how many cabs can fail to start on a rank Then, all of sudden, they'll just spring into life ( maybe when a police car turns up or you get a job first).

If, as a punter you (or anyone else) prevented me from taking the cab of my choosing on a rank I'd take your plate number and report you to licensing.
If as a 'fellow' hack you (or anyone else) prevented me from loading a punter who had chosen my vehicle on a rank I'd report you to licensing.

I would first point out rank etiquette and direct them to the front of the queue, but if they insist on taking my cab that's their right to do so. Maybe there's a reason people don't wan't to get into your cab, does it happen often

any hack that thinks they have some God given right to a punter is deluded

weve had debates on cherry picking and job dodging, how does this fit in? (i want the next job unless its 400 yds and im then on the back of the rank)
