With a Tram to pay for im sure CEC will continue to restrict and tightly regulate and in accordance with the new recommendation of the Scotland bill concerning Taxi/PH :D

Uber is neither Taxi/PH, it also needs licenced drivers, the Scotland bill recommends all passenger carrying vehicles and there drivers must be licenced including funeral, wedding and limos etc.

The other thing to consider is, the Two main companies in Edinburgh already have a well established app, 900 vehicles, 2000 drivers, all happy to service customer demand, Uber won't be able to compete, other app companies haven't even bothered to try

It's all pie in the sky and won't happen in Edinburgh

P.s Our trade also used to operate CabShare, it didn't work, another thing, servicing our App customers we get full fare, what driver in there right mind would pay commission on a fare from George Street to the Castle

Yet they still allow the contract exemption.

Dougie, the man in denial. #-o Aye right enough Dougie, if Rideshare works in London why should it work in Edinburgh? #-o

Oh and Dougie, they might be paying a commission on each job but they are not paying radio dues. And in the quiet times, like after the festive season you are not paying to sit around with your thumb up your ass.

What is the point in paying a committee or company owner, if you can cut these bloodsuckers out of the loop by having an app on your phone? #-o

I think this app will initially be a slow burn depending on the free advertising it gets from the Edinburgh Cab Trade [edited by admin]*ing themselves but it's definitely the way forward. =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>

the generalism that they are operating in the UK as a rideshare company is incorrect.

They are a private hire operator - they will be regulated in Edinburgh just as they are regulated elsewhere in the UK.

as for UBER not being able to complete, now that is amusing.

Not according to their website, they are not a private hire operator. :-| They merely provide a means of communication directly between the customer and the driver and a billing service. :-|

I take your point about Uber being granted a PH operator licence to trade but that's not what they are. I don't think the legislation is up to speed with the technology.

Quote:
Uber is a technology platform that connects riders and professional private hire licensed drivers at the touch of a mobile phone button, cutting out the middlemen of taxi companies.

I disagree - I think the legislation has proved itself with this - UBER can be a PH operator - what it cannot be is god.

The "legislation" you speak of could not have been written with this kind of technology in mind and the fact is, Uber existed as a technology platform before the application for a PH operators licence was made necessary.

This is simply a case councils using what legislation they have to plug the dyke.

Under normal circumstances, you would apply for an Ph operators licence before you started up any Ph company. :-|

hence the fact the legislation is coping quite well in despite of technology proves its robust.

the only people making a fuss are the usual suspects

I'll tell you what though CC, picking up a Ph operators licence so they can use their technology, is a clubbing blow to anyone wanting to stand in their way. =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>
