Anyone who's had chickenpox may develop shingles. After you recover from chickenpox, the virus can enter your nervous system and lie dormant for years. Eventually, it may reactivate and travel along nerve pathways to your skin — producing shingles. So its like chickenpox but worse, and it has nothing to do with chickens before you ask.

My mum got shingles in the '70s. As i recall, it was very painful and left her with a scar on the side of her nose. As stated, shingles is the same virus as chickenpox and contrary to what many people think, you can get chickenpox mnore than once. I have had it twice myself.

Not a very pleasant illness, I got it back in 1983 and was offI work for over 4 weeks; not only the skin rash, but the absolute pain through the nervous system. It took me 20 minutes to try to get upstairs to use the toilet at times. It can be brought on by stress.
