It's obvious being part of a local circuit with the added bonus of a built in APP that as you say directly connects a customer with a driver is better and far more value for money than an outsider coming in profiteering, as Uber does.

I'm happy paying my dues, remember I worked the street for over 4 years, I'm turning over well enough to justify my radio dues, it doesn't matter how much I'm paying as long as I see value, I don't see the value to me as a driver using Uber, it's a con

Based on your figures of hundreds of drivers, here's the question where's the work coming from to satisfy all these drivers who are willing to pay 20% per job? bare in mind the average job in Edinburgh at peak times is under 2 miles, so that's around the £1.50 mark per job in commission, a £7.00 job becomes a £5.60 job, there's probably a drag to get to that job, do you honestly believe drivers during times of demand are going to work under Uber T&Cs

You know the trade and how it works, it's not going to happen

Dougie, why won't you tell us how much you pay for your radio dues and that's whether you work or not, you still have to pay? #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o

So let's just say £600 a month up front whether you work or not. #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o Uber is looking pretty good to me so far Doug. Oh and as for the 20% commission, let's keep it simple, £100 gives you £80 and that's if you don't want to work the street, which is a bonus for any street car sitting on a rank or working an off peak period. Oh and then there's the PH part-timer who puts on his private car to work weekends.

Not to mention the Phc already out there, who decide Uber is a cheaper alternative to their current Ph company.

Never mind Dougie...

Big flaw in your sums Skull
Uber charges 20% agreed, that's £80 from every £100 earned as you say, so that's £160 from £200 earned, if your assumption that I pay £600 per month is correct (not) divided by 30 days that's £20 per day my radio and App costs me, I can earn as much as I like Yes, I also have the Airport permit, I also have customer support as back up, I also have representation at LA and National level, I play my part in investing in local jobs, invest in technology, I also play my part through my dues in cutting my carbon footprint and hey I also play my part in supporting local charities, hey my radio dues go a long way, my radio dues even come back to me in extra call out and extra person charges, my radio is not £600 it is significantly less than that, adding up the sums per pound earned Id say to me the driver, I'm better off being a part of a circuit :D

Cmon Skull it's simple arithmetic

Ok it's not your strongest but nice try :P

Dougie, do you actually believe the tripe you write?

I don't actually know if Uber charges 20% but let's work with that figure. The 20% is on monies earned and not paid in advance whether you work or not. You work when it suits you. As for your airport permit you are working for ECPH but you have failed to considered the airport customers coming off flights with an Uber app on their phone. Oh and what about drivers, as long as you are licensed and have an app on your phone you can work for Uber?

The bottom line here is flexibility with no hidden charges and if you don't work you don't pay. =D> =D> =D> It doesn't get much better than that. =D> =D> =D> =D>

As for the rest of your tripe about carbon footprints and the like, the uptake of the Uber app could be astronomical, think about it Dougie, why wouldn't you sign up to Uber and that goes for owners and drivers of taxis and Phc?

It's only an app on your phone ffs #-o

Oh and Douge, the Uber app and other apps just like it, could signify the end of radio dues paid in advance and City Cabs as you know it. There might even come a point where the taxi market is all about app companies fighting over drivers and customers. :-|

A top heavy company like City Cabs with Committeemen on ridiculous salaries with their pals working in the office and rows of telephonist answering phones could very quickly become a thing of the past. :-|

Made a mistake in my sums

I based my figures on my shift, I should have pointed out that for less than £20 a day that cost covers 24hours, works out to less than a tenner per shift

We already have a popular App, why would I promote another that costs me more of my earnings :?:

Have you checked out our APP? I'd say we have a large slice of the App market in Edinburgh, why would punters switch from a tried, tested and trusted service?

The Edinburgh App market is to small to be significant

Dougie, you are going up against a $40 Billion dollar company that does not charge in advance for an app that any licensed taxi/Phc driver can use. =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>

Oh and as for "The Edinburgh App market is to small to be significant" think Amazon, Uber is becoming a Global app. #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o
