Same as the CPC, a lorry driving mate of mine with 25 years experience driving HGV's and heavy and abnormal loads had to sit through 30 hours of bullshit given by someone who'd never sat in a HGV never mind driven one.

Isnt it a condition that the trainer needs to be "industry competent" ?

No mate, they can learn the course at a local college in a day. It's designed to milk the system.

reminds me of the course that Glasgow city council sent all the PH and taxi drivers on about customer care,
it was a complete waste of time in my eyes nothing of any import delivered by someone who had never worked in a PH or cab in their life.

I would be all for a proper well thought out qualification that focused in matters that actually matter. but a lot of these courses are irrelevant to our jobs and a waste of money, even worse when they are forced on you

Yeah we had one of the staff at our local college asking me if i can get him a badge to show he was "competent". I told him id happily guide him through the application process provided he did every saturday night shift for us for two years minimum, give him an opportunity to show what the job is really like. Guess what his reply was?

When the NVQ's were being banded around round here local Taxi companies were placing adverts in the local papers with the headlines, "Taxi Drivers receive NVQ ensuring your pleasurable journey." The punters pissed themselves laughing saying, NVQ for Taxi drivers??
