Whats the fine for a SP30 (say under 40 in a 30) vs a speed awareness course, isnt the fine £100 and the course £80?

And a day off of work. I think you still have to pay the fine as well.

It's a morning and you pay for the course and the ticket is squashed i.e. no fine.

But they'll still lump it on your insurance because it's all recorded on a database who attends the courses.

Yes..take the points, but wont that push the price up of my insurance on renewal ?

Even if you go on the course your insurance will go up £200, it's a no win situation.

I wouldn't have thought so, not for just one SP30.

Q. If you take the speed awareness course, do you have to tell the insurers?

They'll find out because everyone who attends is put on a database, that's how I got found out some years ago. There's hundreds of thousands of drivers out there driving round with void insurance because they haven't told their insurance company.

I dont recall any other questions than "do you have any motoring convictions or points on your licence in the last 5 years"

Neither did I but then a few days later I got an Email saying I didn't declare that I'd been on a speed awareness course. It will show up on your policy as an endorsement SP30. The hike in price was £200.

Was the hike for the SP30 or was it for not telling them?

Did you already have any points on your licence or was that £200 just for having the three points ?

Now that is a nice round figure! I wonder as to how they arrived at the figure concerned.....what is the yardstick/criteria?

If there is none then they are just plucking figures out of the air, in my book that cannot be right and should be challenged.

I did challenge them to it, when I said the instructor on the course said we don't have to tell our insurance companies they returned with, "he's got no right to tell you that," you've been caught speeding and that's it.

I am on about the £200! How did they arrive at that figure?

To my way of thinking it should be something already laid out like the "Banks", whereby they display a series of cost charges if you/I say go into an unauthorised overdraft, or other unauthorised non compliance......not just a plucked out of the air figure.

I don't know how Admiral work but they lumped £200 onto my Policy £100 for each car.

I didn't have to I was on the phone in a three way conversation with the DVLA who told them I had no convictions. So if I have no convictions I don't have to tell them

That's right, Toots. Answer the question that's asked, not the question you think is asked.

If the insurers ask 'have you had any convictions in the last 5 years?' The answer is no.
