It is not a conviction.

Once the course is completed all is forgotten.

Just had a letter from Merseyside police with the option of a speed awareness course £79 or 3 points and £100 fine, going to take the course ( 4 hours )

It is not a case of saving £25..money has never been the issue..it would be just my luck that if i took the points i would end up getting done for speeding next week and then end up with 6 points...it's a no brainer to do the course.

The course will obviously not work for you though if you don't learn from your mistake and you are going to continue to speed.

How can you say the course wont work for him? he hasn't been on it yet! that's the point of going on it to LEARN something in the process.

Because he says he could end up getting caught again.

Yeah i know, but he hasn't been on the course yet... the course might be successful and do its job and stop him speeding.

roll on automatic speed controllers sent by transponders to cars ECU's

but the speed cameras would earn nothing then

Is it fixed in stone that you must recieve the NIP within 14 days of the offence?

Kind of, they only have to prove it was dispatched within such a time as it would be expected to be received within 14 days. So if they issue it the same day as the offence but it gets delayed in the post it's still valid, but if they leave it to the day before and post it second class then it's nearly impossible for you to get it within the time scale allowed.

There is an absolute time limit (six months from the date of offence I think) after which they cannot take any action at all.
