Burnley Council is to out source Taxi Licensing to the Private sector, another thing they did not tell us.

It's about time the council lost the cash cow that is Taxi Licensing.

If taxi licensing is non profit - why would any private sector business want it?

Perhaps I am on the wrong track.

I look at "Non profit" and tend to think that could be achieved by paying overly large salaries! I think the criteria should be more on the lines .........What would be the reasonable cost of running an office servicing xxxxxxx amount of licenses.

but that's the point - taxi licensing doesn't allow a profit - the only people who should benefit are the licensees via cheaper licenses

Doesn't work like that mate, you know as well as anyone that they make a profit out of licensing.

While its in public ownership yes, but once its gone private it will be no different to other privatisation

They will be sorting out the paper work side of it.... a company working in partnership being paid per licence.....we have it here...works good.

Justice for the 96. It has only taken 27 years...........repeat the same lies for 27 years and the truth sounds strange to people!

I'll bet it's not just licensing but a load of other admin services as well. The drivers will still pay the council their taxi related fees and then the council will pay the private firm to process them.

The councils costs will be lower as they'll save on all the admin staffs wages/offices/equipment etc. and the private firm will integrate the new work into their existing business. But you can guarantee that over a few years they'll end up paying more as the private firm increases it's fees - they always do.

Initially taxi fees should stay the same (or go down if the councils costs have fallen ) but what happens when the private firm puts its prices up, will badges go up ?

What, my £140 badge cost that to make? and my £65 PH ops licence must be printed on a A4 sheep of virgins hide...
