I assume that UBER have got a Birmingham operators license so to get work from them under the current legislation would require both the driver and vehicle to be licensed by Birmingham.

I thought a hack could take work off anyone/any base/anwhere?

Remember to bring the following documents

Private Hire Driver and Vehicle Licences (with the paper counterparts),

yes, for PH within Brum if UBER take a Brum PH ops licence, obviously but a hack isnt restricted. We have had Brum hacks rent off a local base

I would think that uber don't need a brum ops licence, as they have a london ops licence, where the phone is answered is where the ops licence needs to be? Also by having a London licence they can pass work onto any vehicle any where, the problem arises when a brum private hire takes the job from uber, so long as the brum p/h driver gets his own ops licence no problem. Brum has a history with cross border, murtagh, ect. Which was about where the phone was answered. Uber would be mad to get ops licenses, for every city, when they clearly don't need em. And yes wanna hacks are fine.

And yes I know it's an app, and not a phone, but it's where the app is received, which I assume is in London ? Same principles.

When you say they can pass the work to any vehicle, anywhere. does this mean that they don't have to pass the work to another operator? Does this mean that a private hire driver can accept a booking from a London operator without having their own operators license?
Does this also mean that if I were to get myself a PCO operators license I could pass work to another driver licensed anywhere in the country?

No, unless that driver you're passing the job onto also has an operator's licence.

Otherwise if you have a PCO operator's licence, you can only give jobs to other PCO licensed drivers, driving PCO licensed cars.

Yes, but how many drivers in Birmingham have operator's licenses, and are willing to work for Uber, too?

If Uber gets their Birmingham operator's license, they can take on Birmingham licensed PH drivers without them needing operator's licenses, so there's more drivers eligible to apply.

So UBER will be holding a Birmingham PH ops licence then?

in which case, as a hack not in brum i can apply to them too?

Don't see why not. London black taxis are able to join Uber in London.

Though at launch, they're likely to concentrate on one type of service first.

Different services (7-seaters, Exec cars, and hackneys), may come later.

As a melton operator you can't pass work on to anyone that's not licensed by melton, london can pass work on to any one.

Well that will change with the dereg bill tho so everybody will be able to pass work on to everybody else and none of it will matter in time. At the end of the day Uber are still taking 20% of a drivers income which is much the same if not more than the current operators that everybody is bitching about

How many Birmingham ph drivers already taking bookings without an ops licence, and booking them in through there basis, if I were a ph driver I would get my own ops licence, even though I was working through a base, that way I can also take my own bookings

I don't think that is quite correct toots. An operator will be able to subcontract to another operator. He won't be able to subcontract directly to a PH driver from another area.
